King Fernando came to quell the disorder
When tidings reach'd him of Rodrigo's success
A maiden came to the King seeking redress
Of a deed done by Castile's brave young warder

What evil done by he who guards my border
The king did doubt that Rodrigo could transgress
He has done no evil deed she did confess
With justice Rodrigo did slay my father

I am Ximena Gomez may God forgive
I ask not for Rodrigo's head but his hand
As husband for his valor is seductive

So shall you be s... read more

Castile was invaded by a Moorish horde
Five armies on the march each led by a king
five towns fell unappos'd to their pillaging
Thier villany done they turn'd to march homeward

Rodrigo call'd the Castillians forward
In the battle the blade of his sword did ring
And for the Moors there would be no escaping
They drop'd their weapons and cast themselves downward

The five Kings Rodrigo he himself did take
The spoils the Hidalgos and soldiers did share
To imprison a king would be a... read more

Yesterday, James and I went to "Night on the Town" (a local SCA event). We were day tripping, so I guess it was "Day on the Town" for us. The site is fantastic. There is plenty of room for a list field and parking. There is a hall and a roofed patio for feasting and Arts & Sciences. There are even cabins for overnight stays.

The event is mostly about rapier battles, but there is archery and A&S classes too. We enjoyed watching the battles even thogh they seem to be an hour of standin... read more

Diego Laynez was an old regal gent
Count Don Gomez, Lord Gormaz, was a bully
Who treated his retainers so shamefully
Diego remark'd that the Count should repent

With insults and blows the Count's anger did vent
The elderly gent did suffer cruelly
Yet could not defend his words spoken truly
Without justice Laynez went home in torment

An untried youth was the son of Diego
Count Don Gomez had never been defeated
The Count meant to kill the upstart Rodrigo

But Rodrigo to his fat... read more

We have enough cats. We had two the last time I left for a voyage and I was happy with that, and yet Gwen felt the need to get another. I like our new cat. He's a cute rascal. But we now have enough cats. Last week another cat started hanging around our yard. He's very freindly and likes to be petted. He has even rubbed up against our dog Otis. (All our cats do that to Otis and he tries to pretend they don't exist). I told the kids that when I was their age our cats stayed outside an... read more
