El Cid - Libro Uno, Poema Uno

   Sat, April 7, 2007 - 5:05 PM
Diego Laynez was an old regal gent
Count Don Gomez, Lord Gormaz, was a bully
Who treated his retainers so shamefully
Diego remark'd that the Count should repent

With insults and blows the Count's anger did vent
The elderly gent did suffer cruelly
Yet could not defend his words spoken truly
Without justice Laynez went home in torment

An untried youth was the son of Diego
Count Don Gomez had never been defeated
The Count meant to kill the upstart Rodrigo

But Rodrigo to his father's honor he swore
On the field Rodrigo's quest was completed
Count Don Gomez, Lord Gormaz, was no more.
