My Blog

A love story

Come ye kind gentiles,
The time is nigh
To attend my tale
Of days gone by

‘bout a Christian girl
and a Pagan boy
named Maria Claire
and Angus McCoy

Maria was born
of royal good blood
And her hand was pledged
To Baron von Rudd

But fate played a trick,
Cruel as can be
For she longed for another
Angus was he

They had met on the moor
And fallen in love
The blue painted boy
And the Christian dove

They would meet in the wood
And on the moor
On verdant heath
And rocky shore

And all the while
The day drew near
When the wedding day
Was almost here

The morning came
On the day to be wed
But when they called for the bride
They found a note instead

“I have run away,
to be with my love,
I shall never return
By the lord up above”

Sore wroth was the Baron
When the letter he read
He vowed there and then
To have Angus’ head

They scoured the moor,
The wood, and the heath,
they searched the shore
and the caverns beneath

There they found the young lovers
Cold and alone
They were put into chains
And brought to the throne

“please, my lord baron,
have mercy” said she
“I will marry you still,
If Angus you free”

“Marry me still?”
Said the baron with glee
“The maiden awaits in
the dungeon for thee”

“And as for Angus your love,
his head I will hack,
but not 'till I see him
break on the rack”

And so die they both did,
And in horrible ways
And Baron Von Rudd
Let them linger for days

So remember these words
That you have been told
Happy endings are for those
Who have all the gold.

Wanna fight?

I'm just getting into heavy combat and I'm looking for some local fighters to train with so I don't look like a total asshole when I get to Pennsic. Any help here is appreciated. With gas prices being what they are, I'd like to stay in Mercer, Crawford, or Butler counties, or Trumbull county in Ohio.

Snark attack!

I joined a Yahoo group called Medieval Encampments and responded to a question about "goulash" that had been posted by another member . I mentioned that real Hungarian goulash was different than what you usually find in these parts. I added that it would have paprika and potatoes as ingredients. Whoops! The "Period Police" swooped in to inform my ignorant and uninformed ass that potatoes and peppers are NOT period, and that "traditional recipes" depend on which "tradition" you follow and blah blah blah. It was enough to make me want to withdraw from the group, except for the fact that there is good information to be had there. I guess some people have nothing better to do.

Whatever.

Pennsic

I had to do something today to cheer myself up, so I started planning the menu for next War (I just took over duties as camp chef). It actually improved my mood quite a bit to think about going back to Pennsic, and it will give me the chance to try making corn bread in a dutch oven.

Well, enough of that.....

I am back from my doom-and-gloom mood, so don't send for the straight jacket just yet.

After all, it's the weekend, and being miserable on your day off means the terrorists win.

P.S. The banana is for D'ner :-)

On second thought.....

Maybe life's not so bad.

A Rotten Little Poem

With promise life begins
Childhood dreams without limit
Immortal adolescence with no end in sight
Maturity brings reality to view, first faint
growing sharper in time
creeping realizations, painful revelations
epiphany, regrets, bitterness
promise fades
life ends

What the hell!

Sometimes it's hard to drag myself out of bed in the morning. I have this feeling of impending doom, like the sword of Damoclese hanging over my head. I watch the events happening around the world, and I see a bleak future for my boys. I see this country collapsing into a rotting hulk that feeds upon itself until there's nothing left to feed on. I feel helpless to stop the gangrene that has infected every aspect of society, and that all there is left to do is watch the necrosis spread. I hate feeling helpless most of all, but I also hate the thought of doing something just for the sake of keeping busy. I feel like the time may come when something has to be done, and I don't want to have already gone off half-cocked and have nothing left when it really matters.

Well, who needs sleep anyway?
