"The Cultural Creatives" - Another oldie but goodie from 2002 (blog entry) For the last week, I have been completely immersed in a book: “The Cultural Creatives” by Paul Ray and Sherry Ruth Anderson. My Blog

What is it about this year’s Phoenix Fire that made me tell friends that it was the best fire circle I have ever experienced?

At the fire, I was fully present and engaged, totally centered in my Being with every nerve ending plugged into the All. Each moment unfolded from its own perfect center, again and again. Everywhere I turned I saw and heard and felt people in their bliss. Shining smiles blazed out from face after face. Even the shadows came out unafraid and made the dark beautiful, ... read more

For the last week, I have been completely immersed in a book: “The Cultural Creatives” by Paul Ray and Sherry Ruth Anderson. Perhaps you’ve heard about the findings of their long-term sociological study of American culture, in which they “discovered” a new subculture being created now by people just like us. In fact, the most astonishing thing about this book is that I see myself reflected on page after page. They say there are 50 million of us, and we all feel like misfits and outsiders beca... read more

I've been going through a lot of my old writing while reconstructing a chronology and history of the early years of Earth Drum Council. Here's a little bit of an article I wrote in late 1995 for the EDC Newsletter, titled A Spiritual Revolution, for those who are interested in this sort of thing. Mothering my Son and Nurturing Myself

Retaining my sense of identity while parenting a small child has been quite a dance. Soon after my son was born, I made a list of “things that make me feel like myself,” and wrote in large letters at the bottom: “I can do all these things with (my child’s name)!” Not for a couple of years did I see the do... read more

Over 100 people showed up for the last Drum and Dance Saturday in Cambridge on Saturday, December 15, 2007. There was a wonderful mix of old friends and new faces; at the middle circle, more than ten people raised their hand when asked “how many people are here for the first time?” Then – “how many people are here for the last time?” We all looked around, taken aback. Everyone in the circle was there for the last time.

So many years, so many rhythms, so many voices raised high, so many smi... read more
