take a step inside my head
Post-graduate/ "experience lack" hell
Mon, July 9, 2007 - 1:11 PMAnd another thing (for all of my art school buddies)... just because someone has graduated with an art degree, does not mean that they are slackers or dumb! We worked our asses off in school... we art students have a joke "Do art teachers actually go to school to learn how to decrease their students' esteem levels?" Because honestly as much as your thick heads think that we have easy classes... art school is like "a la boot camp au frustration"!
Back on to "requiring experience"... I've not only had college training, but I went to a competitive arts high school and middle school! So what does my 8+ years of formal art training count for... nothing? Experience... experience my ass! I did a strict four years of art high school boot camp, was one of the top ranked art school students in the country, and went on for college where I placed as "above average"... and apparently I still don't have enough experience in my field?
Okay... I'll admitt. Yes, I have a lack of digital experience... but by george I'm really a fast learner seeing as I redesigned and coded my website in two days and have been showing digital progress daily! So that "experience lack" is bullshit.
Then for you office worker... how fucking hard is it to type. You don't ask for applicants with college degrees but some still require experience in typing fast. You can not go to school for typing FAST. Typing... yes. Typing... NO.
"So what did you get your degree in?"
"BA in typing fast!"
...No no no... and again... fucking no!
You know what... freaking test the people. You do not need experience in typing fast. I live by my computer and am quite the speed demon. It's called play computer games... you'll know where the buttons are and not even have to look. Speed is not an issue... especially since the majority of offices still use a 9-key! But still I lack the prefered experience... how about you give me the job and then I'll have freaking experience!
