</a>
										<div>A raw food diet is not just good for you - it’s also good science! You don’t have to take our word for it, have ‘faith’ or trust the latest nutrition guru.

Well on 25 April 2008, individuals took a stand &amp; began to bring together people from around the world in a "Movement to Reverse Diabetes Naturally" through the spreading of educational resources on nutrition such as the film “Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days” and “The Ultimate Encyclopedia of the Raw Food Lifestyle”

										<div>Yesterday, I received an email from a man that teaches by example, a fellow Afro American Yoga Teacher, and my first yoga teacher during my enrollment in the 2yr. Advanced Teacher Training of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco - Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Ben Thomas.

    </a>
										<div>"In 1984, at the age of 22, I moved to San Francisco. During this time period, I could often be found in "The Trocadero," "The End Up," "Buzzby's," "DV8," and various other night clubs. San Francisco's night club scene was "off the hook." Everyone was having a good time. Yet, as the years past, I noticed that my Disco friends were slowly missing. And when I asked others about them, ... the common response was ..."they're dead." And now, at the age of 46, most of my friends are no longer here. Most have died of HIV/AIDS, or complications of the AIDS pandemic."
So, I had the choice of either
1.) To sit and watch
2.) Do something about it

    </a>
										<div>Arriving at Harpo Studios on November 17th 2008 at 11:00am, AIDS activist, Suzanne Africa Engo will complete a 1000 mile run from New York to Chicago. Suzanne Africa Engo, ran promoting Senator Barack Obama, raising awareness about AIDS in Africa &amp; America and the importance of healthy life style in activism.

Since January 2008, Suzanne Africa Engo has now lost 100 pounds using Oprah Winfrey's Best Life Diet. Which is why she chose Harpo Studios as an end point though there is no confirmation on whether she will meet with Oprah Winfrey.

Suzanne stated "It doesn't matter whether or not I meet Oprah Winfrey because I have already met her in our common work, that of living our best lives and fighting for change in particular for the lives of African Girls- my love for her is not dependent on her schedule. Yet of course, I would love to meet her even briefly just to say thanks."

    </a>
										<div>I believe Yoga should be accessible to every individual.

Therefore, for seven years, I have taught donation based yoga classes (students pay what they can afford).
http://ynottony.com/donation.php

And over the years, I have offered free yoga classes at San Francisco's Dolores Park, Ocean Beach and Free Yoga Classes at City Hall.
http://aidslifecycle.typepad.com/alc5tony/2006/10/free_yoga_class.html

And presently, I am the founder &amp; organizer of Sports Basement's Free Yoga Program.
http://ynottony.com/sports%20basement.htm

Presently, I am searching for other venues in the San Francisco Bay Area where I can create a similar free yoga program - making yoga accessible for every individual.

Therefore, if you are a yoga teacher (or a soon to graduate yoga teacher) looking to share your knowledge, practice karma yoga (community service), and put yourself in the public eye, join in &amp; volunteer your services making yoga affordable for every individual.

And if you are a business owner, yoga studio, community center organizer, youth activities advocate, and/or know of a location or organization that would like to become part of this successful growing trend - email me and let's chat ....
Email = http://ynottony.com/contact.php

Together, through the practice of Yoga, we can better ourselves &amp; our community.

06 July 2008 - Yoga Teacher -Stuart Dick
I'm a Registered Nurse and Registered Dietitian with a Master's degree in Public Health, who has had chronic illnesses since childhood. My yoga training has been 'old school' working in the Sivinanda and mostly the Integral Yoga schools. Right now, I'm teaching at the Jewish Community High school and at the JCC in addition to subbing at Integral Yoga Center of SF and have taught weekly at Rhoda Goldman, senior yoga classes.

13 July 2008 - Yoga Teacher - Liz Filippone

Liz Filippone, RYT has been practicing yoga for 9 years and received her 500 hour teacher training at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco. Her teachings and practice are greatly influenced by the Iyengar, Kripalu, Vinyasa and Yin Yoga styles. Also, she is a movement artist and performs in San Francisco.

20 July 2008 - Yoga Teacher - Jessica Weiss

Jessica Weiss currently teaches an Anusara inspired Vinyasa flow yoga class at the YMCA in East Palo Alto. Her yoga classes are physically vigorous and emphasize the practice of Yoga both on &amp; off the mat.

Each yoga class is an exploration of where we are at the particular moment - both physically &amp; mentally. And she encourages sthudents to feel deeply in each yoga pose in order to understand their own unique alignment and potential. And although yoga is a serious medicine for general well-being, she suggest that it we don't limit our ability to laugh and let go.

"Make yoga a dance of life - know when to stop, when to go, and when to let go.

She encourages students to:

Be their own creators.
To determine their own stories.
To dance their own dance.
And to find happiness in their life &amp; happiness in the live's of others.

27 July 2008 - Raja Yoga Teacher - Janardhan Chodagam

Raja Yoga meditation is an open-eyed technique that can be used by anyone, anywhere. Whether you want to learn how to relax, need to be more concentrated and creative or are searching for personal enlightenment, this course can satisfy each of those needs.

Meditation enables you to create new attitudes and responses to life, giving you a clear spiritual understanding of yourself. Like any skill, meditation requires practice to achieve positive and satisfying results. By doing a little every day, it soon becomes a natural and easy habit, which generously rewards you for the little effort it involves.

We will look at:

* Re-discover enjoying and using the positive qualities already latent within you
* Understand your mind and what makes you tick
* Draw peace, strength and tranquillity from a higher source
* Practical guidance in the technique of meditation

Each session will include:
* Know-how
* Philosophy behind meditation and the skill of meditation
* Guided meditation commentaries led by the meditation teacher
* Most importantly a chance to explore what does and doesn't work for you

Yoga Teachers of various styles ( Iyengar Yoga , Ashtanga Yoga , Vinyasa , Raja Yoga , Kundalini , Anasara Yoga , Yin Yoga , Power Yoga , Anna Forrest Yoga , etc.) have joined together and presented their unique connection with the yogic path.

08 June 2008 - Kundalini Yoga Teacher - Shivie Cook

The first time Shivie practiced Kundalini Yoga she knew this was her primary practice. At the time she was a stressed out, overweight, constantly sick corporate lawyer. Kundalini Yoga gave her a chance to literally breathe and find something deeper within her Being. Three months after ther first practice she left her six figure job and started her Teacher Training. 100 hour work weeks were replaced with a practice of mindfulness, asana and meditation. That was over six years ago.

Today, Shivie is still practicing and enjoying bringing the practice to others, especially those stressed out in the jobs / relationships / life in general! She brings understanding, compassion and most importantly humor to her class - always reminding her students that it is ok to laugh whilst doing yoga. She aims to entice students to take their practice off the mat and into their walking life.

Join Shivie for and invigorating yet relaxing class. Prananyama, asana, meditation and savasana will leave you feeling full of possiblity and ready to face your Infinity. Bought to the West by Yogi Bhajan in 1969, Kundalini is a dynamic practice that is accessible to all, regardless of experience. You will feel the difference after your first session. Strengthen your immune system, cardiovascular capacity, intuition, nervous system and increase flexiblity with Kundalini Yoga.

15 June 2008 - Hatha Flow Yoga Teacher- Paul Tucci

In 1996, I attended my first class at World's Gym - San Diego. The Yoga teacher asked "why are you taking this class?:" I answered, "to learn something new about my body". Through experiencing the Iyengar style of Yoga with Tony Eason, I noticed that my sacrum &amp; lumbar spine started to loosen. I discovered the power of the deep breath, and the mindfulness of the practice.

Les Leventhal inspired me with his insightful and challenging classes. Darren Main &amp; Christopher Love 's Hawaii yoga retreat was a celebration of the deepening of my yoga practice and my life.

And after a misguided venture into Real Estate, Joy Ravelli suggested that I become a yoga instructor. That suggestion sent me to many work-shops and eventually to Seattle where i took my teacher training with Anna Forrest.

And, after 11 years, that innocent answer is still the root of what yoga still is for me . Yoga is an exploration of the muscles, the bones, the tendons, the breath, and a break from the churning mind.

Love &amp; peace, Paul.

Mike's Bikes - Karma Yoga in Action

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/051987c3-c599-41a6-806e-3814ac00379a/blog/65b5b16d-42ce-4a63-99d5-38ae62b6c967">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/c31/5d0/c315d02d-3e21-4a11-b25c-f397774a9632.thumb" width="49" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>Striving to walk the path of the karma yogi, I am moved when I experience or view acts of kindness. And today, again - I was touched.

While returning from a training ride loop to San Rafael, CA., I made my usual "pit-stop" at Mike's Bikes of Sausalito. I visited their "WC." I purchased some CyloMax. I filled my water bottles. And then, I noticed something different - something new - something simply "FANTASTIC!" (And no, it wasn't a taxi). It was karma yoga in action.

http://mikesbikes.com/page.cfm?PageID=294

"Bring your donation bike (in reasonable working condition) to any Mike’s Bikes store.

Make a $15 donation to cover our discounted shipping rate to get the donation bike over to Africa (optional).

Leave your contact information with Mike's Bikes for updates on your bike’s journey.

Mike's Bikes will disassemble and pack your bike into a shipping container, which will sail for Botswana in late April.

Mike's Bikes will travel to Botswana to unpack the container and assist with building the bikes and distributing them to their sister shop partner.

This upstart bike shop in Botswana will sell the bikes at a reasonable price to local residents, and generate operating capital allowing it, in turn, to import more bikes.

By establishing a steady supply chain of bikes—and a reputable dealer to sell, service, and repair them—you will have been instrumental in developing a sustainable source of bicycles for a community that has never had them. It will make a huge difference in the lives of people for decades to come." - Mike's Bikes

And another wonderful Aidslifecycle training ride it was .. ..

So remember, it doesn't matter what you've been through .. . .
It doesn't matter what your sexual orientation, financial status, age, weight, creed, or location is ..
It only matters what you do .. .

If you want to create change (perhaps a better world) - you must begin with yourself . .
Wishing the best of all possible worlds,

23 March 2008 - Vinyasa Yoga Teacher - Annie Leguennec

I discovered my first yoga class 5 years ago at my local gym to release tension from my daily life, and I felt in love with it instantly. I also practiced Martial arts for several years. As a student and teacher of yoga I believe in building a constant practice with discipline self-study, and devotion.

I teach Vinyasa Yoga, incorporating alignment, and breathing. Vinyasa Yoga stands apart from most other forms of yoga because its main features are a constant physical activity and a heightened energy level. Vinyasa Yoga gives the body a balanced development of physical strength. Regular practice will help to free the muscular system allowing the skeleton to regain its correct alignment encouraging good posture and excellent body tone. I teach at the YMCA, I also teach Prenatal Yoga, and Gentle Yoga for seniors.

Teaching Certifications
2006 Greenpath Teacher Training Ashtanga Yoga
2006 Greenpath Teacher Training Prenatal/Postnatal yoga
2007 Greenpath Yoga Intensive Ashtanga Yoga retreat
2007 Teacher Training It's Yoga Kids

30 March 2008 - Yoga Teacher - Vickie Lew

In Boston, I studied hatha yoga for several years after my body cried, "help me!" For seven years, I was a student of Dahnhak and then became a full time yoga instructor with the organization. Currently, I teach this Korean form at the Bernal Heights Senior Program on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

This simple method works on stimulating our accuppressure system by tapping our bodies. We awaken our chakras with bouncing and shaking. In addition we naturally perform the traditional stretching and breathing we have come to know as yoga.

Come prepared to breathe, smile and enjoy noticiing the joy of moving your body. Suitable for any level student. Come with your open heart and mind.

<div>After 10 yrs. of laughing at others yoga students; debating over the pros and cons of Iyengar, Bikram, Rodney Yee, and Pattabhi Jois; parading into various yoga studios; critiquing the knowledge of yoga teachers; and gloating at my glorious posture in the mirror; I committed myself to the 2yr Advanced Teacher Training Program of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco.

Well, a small part of my commitment was attending (for the next two years) a yoga class which would focus on "my posture."

    * First Class: Friday night from 6 - 9:00pm.
    * Iyengar Yoga Institute
    * 27th Ave &amp; Taraval
    * San Francisco, CA.

As I entered the Iyengar Yoga Institute, I was very unsure &amp; nervous. "Can I do this?" "Two years of devoting myself to one thing?" And being that I had not glanced at the curriculum, I pondered over "who is the teacher?"

As I entered the yoga studio, I nervously set in Virasana. And as I awaited the arrival of the teacher, I glanced around the room. I felt fortunate that there were 6 men in the room. Yet being the only Afro American in the room, I felt insecure. And after viewing the various warm up sequences of the 34 other teachers in training, I realized that my well scripted movie had changed its plot. Things weren't running as I had planned. And, I contemplated running for the door.

Yet as my 1st quarter yoga teacher appeared. I was assured that I wasn't the only Afro American Male practicing yoga. Then, for some reason, I felt my well scripted movie was back on course.

But it was the 2nd quarter that brought my greatest awakening . . . . .

16 weeks later, I attended the first day of the 2nd quarter. I had read the curriculum. I understood the protocols. I knew my next yoga teacher's name. And, I set patiently in Virasana (gloating at my glorious posture).

Soon following, the 2nd quarter asana teacher appeared &amp; we began the yoga sequence. Upon hearing "utthita trikonasana,” I smiled. Finally, a pose that I could do "perfectly." A pose that would allow me to shine in my own glory. So, I struck a triangle pose. Yet, as the teacher walked around the room, I knew it. I could feel it. She was coming to "speak with me." And then, it came out. She said, "What are you doing in the Advanced Teacher Training Program?"

The room went silent. My breathing stopped. And, as I stood in utthita trikonasana, tears began to roll from my eyes. So quickly, I ran to the bathroom to cry. And as I sat hyperventilating in the bathroom, I yelled out terrible things. At that particular moment, I felt this yoga teacher had ruined my perfectly scripted movie; insulted my glorious yoga pose; and she embarrassed me in front of 34 of my yoga peers. Therefore, I contemplated tiptoeing out of the bathroom and out the backdoor of the yoga studio, Yet, I needed my shoes – the shoes that were in the yoga studio.

After 10 minutes of hiding, crying, screaming, and crying again, I returned to the yoga studio. I finished the yoga class. And for the next week, I contemplated, “what am I doing in the Advanced Teacher training program?”

And then came my awakening ..

I realized that by asking a simple question, my 2nd quarter teacher stopped the filming of my perfect movie. And for a moment, she had removed “my glorious ego” and had restored humility to my life.

I realized, I was in the advanced teacher training program to learn to stand with integrity and acquire a deeper knowledge of the meaning of Yoga. And in order to stand with integrity and/or practice hatha yoga –

   1. I had to quit debating over the pros and cons of various yoga styles;
   2. I had to quit critiquing the knowledge of various yoga teachers.
   3. I had to quit gloating at my self claimed glorious postures.
   4. I had to sit quietly and listen closely.

Well, of the 34 students in the 2yr advanced teacher training program, 7 of us graduated. And now. 6 years later, I still remember that yoga class. I have developed great respect for my second quarter yoga teacher. Also, I've learned that regardless of which practice of Yoga, whether Laya, Mantra, Nada, Raja, Tantra, Bhakti, Hatha, Jnana, or Karma – Yoga begins with the removal of the perfectly scripted movie – allowing the possibility to see clearly – allowing the possibility to learn.

Wishing the best of all possible worlds,

    </a>
										<div>Although none of us are Saints, with each day - we can strive to better our environment. . From using less water to purchasing Eco Friendly yoga mats - see what you can do - today! Take a look at the possibilities below:

Eco Friendly - Green Yoga Mats, Yoga Accessories &amp; A Green Environment

Be content with what you already have - no need to run out and by an entirely new wardrobe of yoga accesories. Yet when purchasing new yoga clothes or yoga products, consider shopping at a thrift store. And if you must buy new, take into account the longevity factor; think about repairability; and consider durability. . How long will this piece of clothing last? Also, begin to create a wardrobe composed of organic cottom, hemp, wood pulp, soy, corn, and possibly bamboo

Also, t's hard to feel beautiful in your raw silk yoga outfit when it's likely that children's scalded hands were part of the production chain. Search for clothing made under fair-wage and labor practices.. and are good sources of info

Here's a list of good sources for green yoga mats, green yoga products, eco friendly detergents, and how to create a "greener / healthier environment::

										<div>During the past 3 years of "blogging" - I have interviewed AIDS LifeCycle Participants, S.F. AIDS Walk Participants, Sports Basement, AIDS Prevention Advocate - Barbara , Author - Spill Kincaid, witnessed the humane actions of Oprah Winfrey, drank Fat Tire Beer, rode the hell out of my Soulcraft, sang "Whitney Houston" &amp; finished with the Queen of Soul - Aretha Franklin (smile) . ...

Yet, I have neglected to speak of my core set of friends - the community - "the Sangha."

So let's continue the tribute to those who make my heart soar; to the people who take that extra step; to the one's who remove ignorance; to the one's who empower; and to the one's who see roses where there are rose and thorns where there are thorns . . . .

										<div>With the opening of the new location in San Francisco &amp; the opening of the Walnut Creek Location, Sports Basement has been full of excitement and fresh new employees. Yesterday, as I walked around, I chatted up the employees of Sports Basement. Here's what they had to say:

Sport's Basement - Ross

Name: Ross

Education: San Francisco State University - Journalism
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 160 lbs.
Age: 22
Occupation: Sports Basement
Favorite Book: The Hound of The Baskervilles

If you could change the world with just one blink - what would happen?

Lower rents &amp; shorter work weeks. Also, I would turn the world into one United Nation but each country would be a seperate "state" (to keep their individual culture). There wouldn't be any one ruler but a council of states.

An Invitation to Oprah Winfrey

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/051987c3-c599-41a6-806e-3814ac00379a/blog/823606d6-d691-4630-adee-26a5dd30a7ea">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/4ab/a45/4aba4577-9394-4dbe-9824-20a3e3f0954b.thumb" width="65" height="48" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>9 times, I have cycled 7 days, 575 miles, from San Francisco to Los Angeles in a cycling charity event called AIDS LifeCycle. In route to Los Angeles, I (and 2,000 of my best friends) cycle thru Montecito - Santa Barbara, CA. ( Montecito is the home to Oprah Winfrey ).

Each Year, the locals of Montecito - Santa Barbara gather and create their own "Paradise Pit Stop" for the approx. 2,000 AIDS LifeCycle Cyclist &amp; 400 Volunteer Crew members.. There you can find: chocolate bars, strawberries, homemade ice cream, corndogs, Twinkies, coco cola, massages, and then some.. ... ALL YOU CAN EAT ...GRATIS!

Years ago (as I ate my strawberries and homemade ice cream), I asked several Montecito residents: "Where is Oprah?"

Responses:
  1. She is not here.
  2. That's a funny question. . . . .
  3. Can I be in the picture ?
  4. Great Idea!
  5. Who's Oprah?
  6. Oprah can be found shopping in the local Montecito Vons.

As I left Montecito, I thought:
"Imagine ... How wonderful and empowering it would be .. . .. "

1. To have Harpo Productions produce a show about the fundraising organizations of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation:

    * AIDS LifeCycle
    * SF AIDS WALK ,
    * National AIDS Marathon

2. To have Oprah ride with and/or sponsor "a cycling team of diverse backgrounds in the fight against the AIDS Pandemic -Team "O".

3. To see 1,500 cyclists cycling down the Montecito / Santa Barbara Coast line wearing jerseys that say . . " Harpo Productions " . . . .

4. To have Oprah Winfrey speak about AIDS in America at the AIDS LifeCycle Closing Day Ceremonies in Los Angeles.
   5. To invite Oprah Winfrey to participate in any way that she can . . ..

My Mother always said: "If you want something, ask for it!" So!

An Invitation to Oprah Winfrey to assist in creating a better world:
