I've been married to Nathan for over 7 years now and he has me so spoiled! There are some pictures of the two of us under my Pics. My husband is a PS1 in the Navy's Full Time Support (formerly TAR) community. We are living on Fort Meade in Maryland, between Baltimore and Washington, DC. So far we like it here. Our home is quaint, but very comfortable, the scenery here on the Mid Eastern Coast is very beautiful, a big change from New Orleans where we moved from in February. When winter comes that will be a shock to our systems, but we're looking forward to having all four seasons.
In May of 2006 I became disabled due to some chronic illnesses I've had all of my life that just recently "flared up". The illnesses I have are Bi-Polar Disorder, Dysautonomia (including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia aka POTS), Hypermobility Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (aka EDS), and a minor case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (aka OCD). If you have questions about these conditions, don't hesitate to ask. As like most people with any illnesses, I'm trying to help spread the word about these conditions. The general public has no idea what they are, who they affect, or even the tell-tale signs that someone has them.
It definitely sucks being stuck in my house most of the time and in a wheelchair when I go out. However, I'm learning so much from the experience and I'm trying to make the best of the it. This time is allowing me to reflect on my life and see what things really mean the most to me. Come to find out they are the things I was ignoring the most before I got sick. My advise to everyone is: Remember to treasure every day of your life, every person you know, and every place you're at, cuz a day will come when it is gone and all you're left with is memories.(See my blog titled "Changes".)
Despite having a number of disabling medical conditions I think that I have an exceptionally good attitude and positive outlook on life. Just because life has dealt me a few bad cards, doesn't mean I have to go around with my head hung low, a frown on my face, and my shoulders hunched in. I believe life is what you make it and I'm choosing to take these bad cards and use them in every good way I can!
I would love to hear from you so please e-mail me or you can instant message me on Yahoo - my screen name is virgotigergirl.
*hugs*

about me
GENERAL: I love being around people and am starting to appreciate people more and life in general. I can't wait to get better so I can go to concerts and go out dancing. Lately I'm finding myself very interested in nature & animal preservation. I'm also very concerned about global warming and the toll it is going to take on our planet in the near future.
----------
HEROES: My little brother, Aaron, who passed away in 2004. My step-mother; she is a very strong woman and I look up to her immensely. My husband, Nathan; without you I wouldn't be here today. You are my strength and my best friend.

I had a doctor's appointment on Friday and I got the results of some recent blood tests and the results were nothing like I expected. Come to find out my cholesterol, triglycerides, and thyroid counts were all way high! My cholesterol and triglycerides are pushing 300 (I have been overweight and house-bound for over a year). Now the thyroid counts explain alot; I've been more lethargic than ever recently and that can be caused by...

Near that stage in their lives, only the most masochistic of molluscs could be expected to experience anything but a sense of imminent dread. Even the most comfortable of clams, however, can hardly be called the life and soul of the party. All they can expect is a watery...

Lately I've been wondering about various phrases in the English Language. So this is the first blog in a series of American phrases and their origins.
This morning I made a comment to Nathan and followed it with, "knock on wood" for a bit of good luck. That made me wonder where that phrase originated and why people say it. This is what I found:
"To touch wood or knock on wood is a superstition action to ward off any evil consequences or bad luck, perhaps because of some recent action...
