To get a little more specific about my interests:

I emote with my hips and rib cage: classic and experimental belly dance (though the experimental stuff is all still in my head... just wait for me to bust my 80's musical theatre fusion on the world ;). I believe in the centuries-old practice of embodying character, plot, and emotion in little sound waves: performing opera, particularly in humid brick courtyards and other unlikely spaces rather than in opera houses. I find myself unintentionally meditating to philip glass. I'm fascinated by: the intersection of the body and the intellect in literature and religion. the relationship between reality and its representations. trying to figure out how to combine all of these things into a ph.d. in a way that won't get me laughed at in the academic world. trying to strike a balance between pondering all the 'deep' stuff and not taking things (especially myself) too seriously. paying back the debt I owe to my high school english teachers, who may have been more influential in making me into a person than anyone other than my parents.
