Eleusyve Productions is proud to announce the release of Aleister Crowleys The Rite of Venus on DVD.

During the summer of 2007 The Rite of Venus was performed as an original musical for hundreds of supportive fans in Portland and Seattle and received critical acclaim. Since then a limited edition DVD of the production has premiered around the U.S. for a few exclusive engagements. At long last, The Rite of Venus DVD is available to the public.

Now you can own the production of The Rite of Venus that Gavin Borchert of The Seattle Weekly heralded, saying: “I've seen several local productions of these Rites over the years, and this one is by far the most elaborate and most successful... Eleusyve's Venus succeeds not only because of this devotion but because of the brains behind it.”
The story of The Rite of Venus is a tale of mystery, love and sorrow.
After the Sun God is slain at the climax of The Rite of Sol, and as twilight falls, the Goddess of Love assumed the throne in the east, and the shrine is transformed into Her Holy Temple. Here Venus rules in Luxury, surrounded by her Acolytes and those probationers who desire to learn her mystery and partake of her tender gifts.
Sharing in Her victory are those forces over whom she holds sway, Venus gazes upon her Temple with pride and acceptance, eager to receive the tributes she knows herself to deserve. Libra, Taurus, Saturn, Pisces, and Luna all array themselves about her dais, and bask in the glory of her love.
But can Libra find an equal answer to his ardor when Venus shares her affections with all her children, and his eyes see the goddess alone? Will Taurus find a way to garner her favor into the earthly splendor that he so desires? Why has Saturn, the very God of death and time, aligned himself with the forces of unfaltering Love and Motherhood? Can innocent Pisces learn the ways of the Temple, and keep her feet upon the path to understanding without some sacrifice of that innocence? How shall Luna, the changing Goddess of the moon, effect her transformations upon these realms of love and luxury?
…And amid all these contending forces, can Love survive?
This Eleusyve Productions DVD presentation of Aleister Crowleys The Rite of Venus includes never before seen out takes and interviews, as well as solo dance performances by members of the cast.

All thought is conflict

So now that it is last weeks "next week"...here's how it played out:

Saturday night was the DVD premiere for The Rite of Venus. All last week was building up to it and by the time the lights went down and the show was ready to start I was already exhausted.

Sitting there, watching the DVD in the dark, several things happened.

People were moved. There was laughter. There was crying. I heard people sing along in places. So in some way we accomplished what we set out to do.

On the other hand, the volume was up a little too loud for the speakers, but what can you do? There was also little snippets of laughter where we did not intend it, and we are re-cutting some of those scenes to take care of that...but they may make it into the special features blooper footage. Because you never really want to loose a laugh, you just want to keep them in the proper places. Small clouds in the big sky of our accomplishment.

There is still more to do before the release, but some preview DVDs will be going out soon. The plan is for me to pick up the re-edited footage on Friday.

Overall, it was an amazing experience. I learned about choral composition, tango, belly-dance rhythms, casting, how (not) to use wireless microphones, and got to read the first really glowing mainstream theatrical review for a project I was involved in, ever.

Then people asked me to make a speech and all I could do was think of all the people who I wanted to thank, and tried to remember them.

Because that is what you think of when things wrap-up...the people who were there with you along the way...like your life flashing before your eyes in microcosm...which makes sense, all things considered.

But there is something that needs to be said:

"I watched The Rite of Venus DVD last night. There are still some issues that need to be addressed, despite my sleeping 5-or-fewer-hours-a-night most nights this week trying to help complete the editing process by Saturday. That said, what I have seen is nothing short of wonderful. The creative process of The Rite of Venus started for me on May 10th, 2005 when I started recording the music for the Overture. It will finally wrap up for me when the DVD is released. Most of the cast worked on the project for nearly a year, and got to let go of it last July. I still feel like I am carrying the same energy, as are our videographer and audio engineer, and I am really looking forward to letting it go. I have watched The Rite of Venus this week as many times as we performed it live. And Venus, the goddess of Love, seems to have required her usual sacrifice: all of the time I would spend with my loved ones. So, just a note to say that I have loved this goddess and have given sacrifice unto her as is her due, but that is about to end, and I am looking forward to reconnecting with those I love."

That is what I needed to say. Thanks, Jon

Some time next week I may record some of the events of this week for posterity. For now just let me say that there is a reason that I am reluctant to share control over personal projects, and events like those I am experiencing this week are the greatest of examples.

So our Mantra today:

The big picture is the sum of the details.

The big picture is the sum of the details.

The big picture is the sum of the details.

The big picture is the sum of the details.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre...

Great weekend.

And yet, any number of things have gone a little crazy. For example, the car broke down on the freeway yesterday during the height of the deluge. But it's in the shop getting fixed, and it was not too much trouble to deal with.

Lots of little things happening. Still, I feel calm in dealing with them.

It was a really great weekend.

Incidentally, friends who work for Microsoft...if I wanted an X-Box 360 and a copy of Halo 3 for Yule (for Crash...well, for me, but I'll share it with Crash) is there a way I could get a good deal on it?

Thanks:)

4 to 6 weeks they said. That was over two months ago.

The job offer from Horizon House came yesterday.

I have not accepted yet. It is more money, but there is the yelling. Not sure it is enough money to compensate for the shouting.

And then there is the other job that I really want, that I have applied for but not heard back about.

So, I am thinking about it. I am planning on asking for more money.

All in all....just not sure.
