I spent many years trapped in my head before I decided to give equal billing to my physical presence. Now I revel in sensation and physical activity. I run, kayak, dance, touch, hoop, hike, sweat, swirl, twirl and sensually explore. I celebrate the emergence of muscle and my heart sings when my body does what I ask of it .My brain is still a force in my life - but I have a more finely developed physical side that knows now how to exert itself so when the brain starts to dominate (denying the body its needs and wants - from food, to exercise to touch) my body knows how to push back. In this way I am something of a switch (to borrow language). I switch back and forth between the cognitive and the corporeal. The only balance I have achieved in this regard is the ability to switch back and forth - generally speaking though if one is on the other is off.
