Really. I should. In 12 days my feet will touch the dust for the first time. I'll finally be there, I'll finally be home. My costumes are all over the place (including the mail), I still don't know how the hell I'm getting my tent out there, and I have mountains of stuff to do before I can go. Instead of freaking out, I have this incredible serenity about me. It will be okay. It will be okay. It will be okay. I may not have a tent, but I'll have my Gothic Anubis costume. I may not know where ... read more

So I've been back for a couple of days now and I'm finally caught up on my sleep. The music was good, the candy was great, and as always the people and art were the best of all. I'm not quite sure how to explain to anyone what a temporary autonomous zone does to my soul. It's a taste of freedom in a world of control. I am crispy as hell from doing inversions and inswings with fire poi, and couldn't be happier about it. This weekend I learned that it is possible to rig propane cannons to fire... read more

about me
I have my BA in Anthropology and Environmental Studies from New College of Florida, the Florida public honors college. In order to graduate from NC with your BA you have to write a masters level thesis. Mine was an examination of Ottoman, British Colonial and early Zionist environmental policy as it pertains to water and land usage. I am currently a Masters candidate at CU Denver studying Urban and Regional Planning.

I would like to eventually purchase a very large tract of land somewhere out west and build a self-sustaining earthship. I love to travel. I love to read. I do not believe in supernatural or mythological beings, or extra-material realities. I also don't believe our limited primate senses and limited primate brains can ever hope to understand 'Truth', the best we can do is build models using the available evidence, and update our models when we must. While I would never infringe on the right of individuals to hold (what seem to be to me) preposterous ideas, I have little tolerance for dealing with the cosmic zombie jewish carpenter fan club (especially of the fundamentalist "the world is only as old as my mythology says it is and I want to teach this bullshit as science" variety). Specialization is for insects.

I paid them to say this

Mitchell put up with me when I was...ready to fight...with the following.
Grace
Dignity
Respect
Honor
and
Truthfulness

He EARNED my respect while teaching me a lesson.
He is a good man.

A fantastic fire performer and a wonderful person, Mitchell spins with as much heart as technical ability. Not only does he spin very, very, very well, but he spins for all the right reasons. Mitchell is one of the great pyrokinetic geometric philosophers, and he gets my full endorsement. Furthermore, he is an old-schooler who has neither become lazy nor lost his relevance in the world of spinning, which is a grand achievement! Oh yeah, and he's an amazing person even when he puts his toys down!

I say some VERY silly things on tribe...

Re: The "value" of fire performance (in Professional Fire Artists) I'll personally vouch that Miami is a waste of time now. In 2000/2001 it was nothing to head down there and have three of four $400 gigs as a solo poi spinner. Now there are a half dozen individual spinners who will perform for a guest list, and m... read more

Re: Fire Permit woes (in Professional Fire Artists) In Florida we have often found that it works better to ask for forgiveness than permission. I personally don't work that way, but many many many of the performers down there do.

Professional Fire Spinner Contract (in Professional Fire Artists) Hey all. So I took a few year break from professional fire performance but I feel like it's about time to get back in to it.

Mad Skills - Check
Insurance - Check
Crew of fire safeties - Check
My contract I used to use - Hmmm. Where the hell... read more
