Amara is a Middle Eastern dancer and instructor based in the Twin Cities, MN. She is the manager and a founding member of Al-Bahira Middle Eastern Dance Theater and was member of the former Ammala Middle Eastern Dance and Music from 2003-2007. Amara teaches at the Aalim School of Dance (www.aalimschool.com) in Inver Grove Heights and at Cheek to Cheek Ballroom Dance Studio (www.cheektocheekdancestudio.com) in Coon Rapids. Maybe soon?
On the baby front, I'm STILL not in labor! Argghh! But, for the first time in a couple of weeks, there's progress. The baby dropped, I'm 40-50% effaced, and dilated to 3. Had the doctor strip my membranes today, so hopefully that'll speed things up (if you don't know what that means, don't google it. Kinda gross sounding, and it hurts.) Mostly, I just don't want the baby to be born on my son's birthday (a week from tomorrow), although I'm prepared for that, if necessary. The Curious George ca... read more

Still waiting
Well, I've been dilated to 2 and 30% effaced now for 2 weeks. Still waiting. And waiting. I was really looking forward to having the baby before Thanksgiving, but now it may well be December. Granted, I'm due in December, but the doc told me several weeks ago that he thought I would go early. I'm full term, so the baby would be just fine now. I just don't want the baby to be born on my other son's birthday (Dec 5). We'll see. Think labor-ey thoughts for me!

Baby news!
We had another ultrasound yesterday, and it's a boy! Everything is looking good, and I'm cleared to keep dancing as long as I want (and as long as people can stand to watch me!) I'm definitely more uncomfortable (and having more pain) than even last week, but I'm in my 31st week (out of 40), so I guess that's to be expected. I didn't dance this far into the last pregnancy last time (stopped around 28-30 weeks, I can't really remember), and I wasn't teaching yet, so it's quite different. Good,... read more

Baby is looking good!
I had an ultrasound today, and baby looks good! Heartbeat is good, growth rate is right on target- yay! I'll post a pic tomorrow after I get them scanned. I won't have results from the genetic testing (reason for the ultrasound) for 1 and 3 weeks (2 tests), but I feel confident that the baby is healthy. If it isn't- well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, I'm just happy that I got to see him/her. So active, and it was so cute to see the little mouth opening and closing!
