Owen is defined as the musical collaborations utilizing solely the combined talents of Zachary Carroll and the Reverend Kenneth Martin. Bringing the Lo-fi genre which began blossoming in the nineties into the new millennium Owen combines folk, jazz, and rock roots in a beautiful soundscape of contemporary art music. Owen creates independent music that contains melodic as well as experimental elements and has a firm foundation based in the jazz and folk approaches to songwriting and performance.

Zack and Kenneth have been friends since 1984, their musical collaborations began with the Sierramont middle-school band and the early-nineties hard-core punk band 10 fl. oz. They went on to form Owen in 1995 after Kenneth received a 4-track recorder for Christmas.

Owen's music has been featured on UC Berkeley's KALX radio program "The Next Big Thing". Additionally, Owen twice played in studio on Sonoma State's KSUN and also played an in studio hour long concert for UC Davis' KDVS radio program "Live in Studio A".

The Album "Psychedelic Tour De Force" was named as one of the top 10 Lo-Fi Albums of 2004 by the on-line Zine and Website Heraclitus Sayz!
