Try marmots. Marmots are a rodent that looks a lot like a golden mantled ground squirrel but much larger. Standing on their hind legs I think they're about 18"-20" tall and they only live, in California, at high altitude in the Sierras.

Not much time still, but I wanted to post something.
Things have gone much better with the guild than I had any right to expect. Besides Queen's Parade, we're drilling and parading in the morning with our own drummer, working Queen's Joust, and having our own set gig time at the Tavern (4:30). We're getting other guilds pulled into our 4:30 (washer women, constables, St. Luke's). The German knight has even visited our guildyard after hours with his wee one.

Sandy and one of our guild members are going back over to site today to do a bit of set up and deliver some alfalfa bales we're going to make benches out of. I know, we could get some bales from Faire probably but we've already leaned on Molly for some and Sandy wants to use these at home for mulch ...

Big deal, you say, it's just a giant ground squirrel. Well, they have picked up, in the Southern Sierras, a taste for rubber. At Mineral King they have been known to get under car hoods and chew on radiator hoses.
