One of the claims made by anti-gay fundamentalists is that if we allow gay marriage, then that will give people permission to experiment in the gay "life style". This will in turn result in the weakening, or maybe even breakup, of traditional marriage. Is this really a possibility?
I just had my yearly physical today, and the worst part by far was the prostate exam. I mean, at no point did I say to myself, “Gee, that was fun. I think I’d like to try the gay prostate-exam-like sexual style....

President Bush has said that America is addicted to oil. If so, then drilling for more oil would merely be the desperate act of an oil addict.
Much better solutions to high gas prices are at hand. Two years ago my wife and I bought a new high millage, near zero emission car. By doing so we reduced our gasoline consumption by over one half. Obviously, a huge reduction in oil dependance is possible by conservation alone.
Many smart companies are now researching "green business", energy co...

Just sitting here at the Solar and Astrophysics Lab, where I work, and looking at today's views of the sun. This is a picture taken at about 2:00, I think, in the ultrviolet range. Right now we have 'quiet sun' conditions as the Sun is at a low point in it's 11 year cycle.

Just finished this delightful book. Like most good science research, it suggests many more juicy questions and provides new material for speculations about why we are the way we are. The authors approach evolution of mind by comparing behavior of species alive today, like baboons and people, who's behaviors are thought to have evolved from a common ancestor. This is a fascinating read that makes me appreciate how special some people are who are willing to spend a career in Africa trying to tr...

Imagine a fiery and animated Rev. Wright delivering these words:
"... but we cannot say that we are a righteous people.
We've sinned against you.
We've sown to the wind and are reaping the whirlwind of crime, drug abuse, racism,
immorality, and social injustice.
We need to repent of our sins and turn by faith to you."
These words were delivered to the nation at the first inauguration of President Clinton by Billy Graham.
