My Thoughts on Things...

I was surprised and disappointed to see how close the recent vote was in the U.S. Senate on the proposed constitutional amendment to ban flag burning. I like to think our senators, on average, are more enlightened than that, but I suppose that's my naiveté showing.

In my mind, you legally protect things that are precious and rare. I haven't heard that there's a shortage of flags – in fact, my guess is we can make 'em pretty much as fast as we like or just order more from China. They're ... read more

I've been giving the question of a good life philosophy a bit of thought off and on for a long time, and have recently realized that a good answer has been staring me in the face for as long as I can remember - The Golden Rule. Much of the conflict that arises between people could be avoided if more people stopped to think about how other people will be affected by their own words and actions. Re: file list? (in Mac Tech Support) Yes, that command will only look in your home directory - that's what the "~" does after the "find" at the beginning of the command. You can replace that tilde character with anything you want as the starting point for the search, however. There... read more

Re: Keyboard cleaning? (in Mac OS X) I just use a slightly damp rag (so that it doesn't drip at all if you give it a good hard squeeze). I read something years ago about some chemicals causing some plastics to yellow over time, so I try not to use cleaners if I can avoid them.
