Memorial Day

   Tue, May 29, 2007 - 5:13 AM
We had this big discussion tonight as we feasted on bar-b-qued ribs, home made potato salad, water melon, baked beans, corn on the cob and gallons of wine. The discussion was all about why we have these feasts of food on Memorial Day. We were talking about remembering the people who have given so much for our freedom and how it should be a more somber day. We put out our flag, as usual, but it didn't seem like enough. I noticed that throughout our neighborhood everyone seemed to be celebrating with family and friends. We finally decided that it is a way of celebrating the freedoms we do have. A way to appreciate that we are alive and happy and able to share time and fun because of those who gave their lives in service for our country. We celebrated into the wee hours and I was just wondering if any of you have felt the same? I guess we were thinking of the families that have lost a loved one and who will spend this day in mourning. Mixed feelings for me on this topic. (My spelling sucks)

it was a very bittersweet memorial day for us.... we did the usual friends and family gathering for the BBQ too, but with so many of our "friends" deployed it felt a bit lonely....

we took food to our homeless friend, we went to the memorial park to visit family and friends on the other side of the lawn

but mostly, we thought about how extremely blessed we are to feel safe, and have the freedom to move about freely, to enjoy the feasts....

and we decided that most likely everyone we know that is deployed would want us to have a cold one for em, and keep the faith as well as the normality of homelife going for them until they return and can enjoy it for themselves with us....

we have to keep living, so they have a connection to a sense of reality... and be very sure we dont forget the sacrifices they are making for all of us....

we saw a guy in BDU's at the gas station yesterday... we Thanked him, and his wife.... and he said thank you to us for thinking of him, he's just back from is 3rd tour over there..... he said it was nice to be home.

Thanks for posting something like this.... makes us think, and makes us really thankful for all we have...
