The NY Butoh-Kan:Training Initiative Program (NYBK) is an effort to strengthen resources of the study of Butoh dance.
NYBK facilitates rigorous physical training, enriching students with first person historical context from international masters.
The third phase of this initiative will take place at CAVE’s studio in Brooklyn, NY during the months of April - July 2009.
Consisting of five Introductory and five Intensive sessions by five international guest teachers.

DANCERS AUDITION IN NY FOR OPERA PROJECT IN EUROPE ( community » other ) German based, Butoh dancer and choreographer, Tadashi Endo, is looking for 7 dancers for an European opera project in April/May 2009.

This project is a cooperation of the Butoh Centrum MAMU Göttingen with the International Händel Society Göttingen and will have its premiere on May 26, 2009 at the International Händel Festival in Göttingen. It will also be performed at the International Festival in Edinburgh. Dir.: Doris Dörrie, chor.: Tadashi Endo, conductor: Nicolas McGegan

The workshop audition will take place in NY as part of Session III of the NY Butoh-Kan Training Initiative Program:

Butoh/ Noguchi Workshop with Imre Thorman (events » community) Friday, April 24, 2009 - 6:00 PM The Noguchi gymnastics method is not limited to dancers, everyone can use it to generate fluidity and relaxation throughout the body. If you spend lots of time in one position (e.g. in the computer, driving, etc) and are thinking how to relax your body with a gentle approach, we really recommend you to check this class.

CAVE is an artist’s collective and organization founded in 1996. It is now one of the longest running experimental art spaces in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY. Our constant goal is to maintain an environment that attracts, provokes and supports exchange, generative confrontation and collaboration among emerging and established artists and audiences from diverse cultures and artistic backgrounds. CAVE strives to provide an explorative arena and support system for the artistic development of its resident artists by hosting studio workspace, educational workshops, exhibition and performance opportunities, and assistance in the realization of projects that support risk taking in the in visual, media and performing arts.
CAVE’s intention is based on the idea that people learn and are transformed through direct experiences that potentially awaken new levels of understanding and knowledge. In addition to our visual arts projects and artist residences, during the past five years CAVE has organized over 35 butoh workshops giving the opportunity to over 200 dancers to study with some of the best masters of this dance form. In 2003 and 2005 CAVE presented and produced two editions of the International New York Butoh festival featuring the work of over 40 butoh artists and also presented workshops, films and lectures. CAVE is led by video artist & curator, Shige Moriya, and theater & dance director/performer, Ximena Garnica.
