My Blog

With India recently making world news, I realized that I was totally there. Not at the time of the terrorists attacks in Mumbai, but I kinda near Bangalore when it was bombed in July. The city was so ansy that I almost got shot over a Subway sandwhich at the airport. True story, honest to god, I had an AK-47 in my face when all I wanted to do was eat something remotely American. I swear Subway should have given me free sandwiches for LIFE after that awkward incident.

But India is sti... read more

Does the "I'm a belly dancer, not a stripper" conversation ever get old?

Just curious because as I look at the way belly dancers are portrayed on television, I realize that most Americans assume we're a small step above pole dancers. To be honest, I don't even thing we're a whole step higher as in one foot is on the bottom step and the other is on the step above (mainly because we don't take anything off). Like I told all my friends at school, Tribalcon 08 was single handedly the most fun I've had in my adult life. I would say my whole life, but seeing Radiohead in concert was just...just....incredible. One day I will get around to writing about all my workshop experience, but all these stupid tests are in the way. I swear, life always gets in the way of bellydance.

I think I was killed at a young age in the 70's in my past life. I think this because I'm a hardcore funk fanatic (Parliament, Earth Wind and Fire, Ohio Players, Gap Band, Billy Preston, Commodores, etc). I also say the the word jive alot, as in shuckin and jiving, don't be jivin me, that jive turkey, etc. I also had an afro before I had locks and loved flared jeans because they had those awesome bell bottoms. I also love those blaxploitation movies (Foxy Brown, Supafly, Shaft). Yeah, I ... read more
