Apparently there is some footage of what actually happened on youtube, but I'm at work and can't access it right now....

I first heard about this last night, but after reading everything that's been posted on the internet, especially personal accounts of what actually happened....I feel like my heart is breaking. I don't know how else to describe it. Even if I didn't feel a certain kinship with these people, i mean, FUCK! These people were having a PEACEFUL, family oriented gathering in the middle of nowhere, and they were ATTACKED. Their CHILDREN were ATTACKED! Say what you want about liberals, the tribal movement, hippies, whatever....whether or not you agree with these people's lifestyles, the bottom line is that armed feds were attacking unarmed citizens AND THEIR CHILDREN. How do you justify that?

I was reading accounts of the rave near salt lake city that was raided in 2005, about how the police were outright attacking people. One girl said she layed down on her stomach with her hands behinde her head when she saw a police dog coming to attack her. Once they called the dog off of her they then proceeded to KICK HER IN THE STOMACH for no reason. When they found the oraganizer, the organizer told them that this was a legal event and that he had a permit, and held it up to show them. The cop pointed an assault rifle at his forhead, took the permit from him, tore it in half and said "No you don't." All the while police were confiscating the cameras and cell phones of the people tring to capture footage as proof of the brutality they were winessing.

I've also heard about a burn that was raided somewhere in the south because police flying in a helecopter overhead saw children swimming naked in a lake and thought there might have been child abuse going on. They raided the event, then proceeded to separate the children from the adults and question them, which is just WRONG and was probably very traumatizing for them. Funny how they'll use childrens safety to break into an event, yet they'll shoot them in order to work a crowd into a enough of a frenzy that they can make a few arrests.

Have you seen the footage of the open air event in the czech republic where HUNDREDS of cops came and attacked the people there?....Something about it reminded me of the pines and it made a shiver run down my spine.

It breaks my heart. It breaks my fucking heart and I need to do something about it now. I'm lucky in that the cops that have interrupted events where I've been present haven't been so vicious...but what if they had been? We've been lucky enough that we haven't seen much of it around here...yet. It could be us. It could be Playa del Fuego or Gaian Mind or Echo Lake, etc.....what's to stop it from happening to us, and the people we love? What if it was burning man? I'm sure it's happened to some of you, or at least some of your friends or family already! Obviously taking legal and saftey measures to insure the event means nothing to the likes of people who will point an assault rifle at your forehead while they tear your permit to shreds. The bottom line is that they hate us. They hate us for no reason and they will stop at nothing to hurt us, interupt our way of life, or instill enough fear in us to make us submit.

What can we do? Where can we start?</div>

<div>EPA OPENS CHEMICAL RISK ASSESSMENT TO CORPORATE LOBBYING — New Process Marginalizes Government Scientists and Promotes Industry Influence

Washington, DC — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has unveiled a new process for assessing the health risks of new chemicals that allows chemical manufacturers and other industries to play key roles. As a result, it will be much easier to inject corporate influence into public health determinations that should be purely scientific, according Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER).

The overhaul of the EPA “Integrated Risk Information System” became effective on April 10, 2008, the day it was announced. EPA said the changes “created several important opportunities” for affected interests to weigh in “at key points throughout the nomination and assessment” of new environmental contaminants. One hallmark of the changes is pushing government research to the side in favor of outside research which is largely industry-funded. As a consequence –

Affected corporations will be intimately involved in each step of EPA’s risk assessment and will be able to know what staff are assigned to which work, making the agency “research plan” vulnerable to political manipulation through the appropriations process;
The Defense and Energy Departments will have a formal role on how pollutants, such as the chemical perchlorate, are evaluated. In addition, these agencies could declare a particular chemical to be “mission critical” that would allow them to control how “data gaps” are to be filled. All intra-and inter-agency communications on risk assessments are deemed “deliberative” and thus confidential;
The White House Office of Management and Budget would control both the substance and timing of final decisions on chemical risk assessments.
“Under this system, every chemical risk assessment is a special interest scrum,” stated New England PEER Director Kyla Bennett, a former EPA scientists and attorney. “Had this process been in place, the tobacco industry would have stopped EPA from declaring secondhand smoke a lung cancer risk.”

These chemical risk assessments are used to develop toxic clean-up criteria, safe drinking water standards, occupational exposure levels and other essential public health protections. In its press announcement, EPA Assistant Administrator George Gray said the changes were intended to make the assessments “more predictable, streamlined, and transparent.”

“In the name of transparency, EPA concocted this convoluted system in secret,” Bennett added, noting Gray’s previous work in an industry-financed institute on this topic. “What a coincidence that this process seems tailor-made to drum up a lot of business for the work Mr. Gray did in the private sector.”

PEER points to this revision as one of what will be many more late-in-the-Bush-administration attempts to skew rules, interpretations and policies that could not be changed through normal, publicly-reviewed channels. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee has already vowed to hold oversight hearings on this topic.

<div>Alright guys, I hope I don't have to resort to calling in some favors. Here goes.

My cat had kittens back in november and I fell in love with one of them, a little guy who I named Henry. I really didn't want to part with him once it was time for him to go, but couldn't keep him because we already have three cats in a tiny ass apartment. So I gave him to someone reletively close to me in hopes of being able to see him when I want and watch him grow up and know he's taken care of.

The problem is that I am afraid he may not be being taken care of. I made the stupid descision of giving him to someone who I know has a drinking problem and makes alot of rash descisions. She has also abandoned cats in the past that she didn't get along with....It's happened twice that I know of and I really thought she had changed for the better but I was wrong. I gave him to this person because, like I said, they are fairly close to me and I see them on a regular basis. It might have been a selfish descision but i thought it was the right descision at the time. I received a phone call last night from the person saying that I either had to pick him up or she was taking him to the SPCA. I really can't let that happen to the little guy and I am in no place to take on the responsibility (let alone the shit I will catch from my roommates) of another cat.

He's a really awesome little cat, born in mid-november. He's in really good health, no fleas or worms or anything, and he's had his first round of boosters. He has an appointment to be neutered on April 8th and I am more than willing to pay for the procedure for whoever adopts him. He's a tremendously sweet, intelligent little animal and I can't stand the possibility of him spending the rest of his miserable little life in a cage until he is killed because people only want to adopt 6 week old kittens.

The reason the person doesn't want him is because he "bit" them. Playfully. Keep in mind that he is a YOUNG cat. 3 months....maybe 4 or 5 years old in "people" years. He is rambunctious but like I said, he is YOUNG. He is simply energetic and playful, like most kittens his age should be. When he is not being curious and playful and energetic (again, something HEALTHY for a cat his age) he is a really sweet, intelligent, friendly little guy. He will undoubtedly calm down when he gets a little older, especially since he is being Neutered very soon. The other thing I would like to mention is that I have not spoken to this person yet today and they may have, by this point, decided to keep him. Like I said, this person has a habit of being a bit irrational. I don't really care, because this has alerted me to the fact that they are in no shape to be responsible for a cat. I'm taking him home with me today, regardless of if they want to keep him.

If anyone is interested, PLEASE let me know.

P.s.....Why am I always writing about cats in my blog? I'm not some crazy ass cat lady, I swear!</div>

<div>The kitten died just a few hours after kevin got her to the hospital.

Last night, when we got home, we noticed that the smallest of the kittens had a very swollen belly. She wasn't as active as the other kittens, who were running around and playing and fighting with eachother. Molly was paying much more attention to her than the other kittens too. I wanted to take her to the vet so bad...I knew there was something wrong with her and I knew it was something serious. She didn't even want to move...her belly was so swollen that it was making it hard for her to walk.

Bill kept saying that she would probably be fine, and that I'm a psycho-liberal-peta-hippie for thinking anything was wrong with a cat who CAN'T FUCKING WALK. Once I convinced him that there was definitly something VERY wrong with her, he kept saying that if it lives it lives and if it dies it dies and that we should "let nature take it's course" . I wanted to punch him in the fucking face. These cats are living in about as natural an environment as we are. They are not wild animals. If we "let nature take its course" we wouldn't have three cats living with us that we feed from a fucking can everyday. If he ever gets sick and wants to go to a doctor, I can't wait to throw that back in his face. Oh, you have pneumonia? Hit by a car? Flesh eating virus? Why don't you just let nature take it's course?!

I cleaned out my bank account trying to save the kitten that I stepped on yesterday so I had absolutely no money to take the kitten to the vet and kevin is broke too...I don't even know how I'm going to eat and get to work for the rest of the week. There was no convincing Bill to pay for the kitten's veternary visit because he is a coldhearted asshole who feels no compassion for anyone but himself, and Mirinda will never say or do anything that defies Bill's word.

The kitten would cry whenever it was left alone by us and her mother and brothers but they were all feeling energetic and playful and she couldn't keep up. I let her crawl into my lap and I held her until she stopped crying. She had such a sad look in her eyes and I knew then that she wasn't going to make it. I woke up to Mirinda crying this morning because she went to go pet her favorite kitten and she was dead.

I know it seems silly that I'm this upset over some kittens but I couldn't help how attatched I was to them....I feel so guilty....Both of their deaths could have been prevented if I would just look where I was going. I mean seriously, if you have a house full of three week old kittens who get into EVERYTHING, you watch where you're stepping.

I feel so awful</div>

<div>I feel so fucking awful.

I stepped on one of the kittens yesterday by accident...she pooped herself but she wasn't crying and didn't seem to be in any pain. She was playing with her brothers and sisters all night so I thought she was fine.

This morning, when I got up for work, I noticed her laying on the ground in front of Bill and Mirinda's room. She wasn't moving. I went over to check on her...She was concious and breathing, but she wouldn't get up to walk. I picked her up and placed her on her feet but she collapsed each time. She tried to walk but her forelegs buckled in and gave out. She wouldn't walk or move or eat or even cry.

Bill and Mirinda pretty much said that they wouldn't help me pay the veternary bill and that I should just let her die. We're taking the rest of the cats in today for checkups at 5:30 and they said that I could just wait until then to bring the kitten to the vet, but this wasn't an option. I knew if she didn't get help soon, she would die.

Kevin took me to work and called out today so that he could take her to the emergency vet. He just called me to let me know that she's had internal bleeding in her stomach and her body temperature is ten degrees below where it should be. The vet said that they weren't sure if the bleeding has stopped, but she has been growing steadily weaker all morning so there is a pretty good chance it hasn't. They want to keep her for the next twenty four hours and she needs to be hooked up to an IV. There's no guarentee they can save her.

I feel so goddamn awful. I shouldn't have gone to work today...I can't focus on anything I'm supposed to be doing and I haven't been able to stop crying. Everyone probably thinks I'm overreacting but how could I not be upset? She's a three week old defensless kitten and it's MY fault that she might die. Bill and Mirinda didn't even seem phased.

I'll never understand how anyone can have a lack of compassion for animals.

To make things worse, they're charging eight hundred dollars for the twentyfour hour observation period. I cleaned out my bank account just for the required half we had to pay up front. In other words, christmas is going to suck this year.</div>

<div>Ok. I would like to take a moment to rant about how I am not going to have a single minute unplanned out this weekend. I feel like I'm going to have to schedual bathroom breaks.

AHHHHHH I need more time. Or less work. Actually, a little of both would do me well. Or maybe amhetamines. Yeah.

Ok, so after I leave work today, it's off to the gym and yes, this is important, because my fat ass needs a workout. Then, go home, shower, then house party. Then, leaving the house party to go to some party at an art gallery. Then sleep (maybe?).
Saturday morning, BRIGHT and EARLY... Volunteering with the horses and the special needs kids and all that (basically shoveling horse poop for a few hours). Then, home, shower. Then Griffon's memorial party thingy at FDR park at 2. THEN off to highland farm (hopefully) to play with fire. Might I add that I lost the only wicks I had worth burning. So....Will mostly be camping at highland farm to make the 3 hour drive worthwhile. Coming home sunday morning. By this point, my house will be more of a wreck then it is right now, the sink will be overflowing with dishes, mine and kevin's dirty laundry from the past 2 weeks will be all over our bedroom floor and the whole apartment will reek of litter box.

<div>ok...so I know it's a big early to be talking about next pdf, but i had apretty cool idea and I wanna get the wheels turing a little bit. Would anyone like to join the effort on a theme camp for kinetic toys? (poi, hoola hoops, devil sticks, juggling balls, etc.) I'm sure it's been done before but it would be super cool, and with enough people working on it it would be really awesome. Let me know!! Thanks!</div>

<div>Ok, so all is looking well for PDF. Kevin was able to get out of work, but right after that happened, our car crapped out on us. It looks like we'll be able to fix the car on time and on budget for PDF.

For as much bullshit as I have overcome to get to this festival so far, I hope it pays off. Thanks to everyone who's offered their help!
