Yes sir, I can boogie

I started bellydancing early in 2003, and have fallen hard in love. I`ve taken classes in fusion mostly and am very happy to be taking classes focusing on egyptian cabaret technique foundations now. It is a welcome change.

Two friends and I have formed a bellydance troupe called "Tha Fae". Right now we're just startin' out, but are practicing and performing so much, we couldn't be happier!!

I am making great strides toward achieving my bellydance goals of building a dance community locally and of learning more.
On Jan 1, 2008 I launched Fraser Valley Bellydance (www.fraservalleybellydance.com) which functions to bring together the dance community in our local area from Langley to Agassiz. FVBD is also bringing teachers to us for workshops in all sorts of topics. A third focus has been added on educating the public about this ancient dance form. I am greatful for all the support and encouragement I have recieved so far and I hope that FVBD will bring a positive dance force to our neighbourhood.

Another endevour I have just began is Aphid Kouture Costumes. Affordable Egyptian and Turkish Cabaret costumes, Tribal costumes, as well as jewellery and items. These are all either hand made or found on my world travels.

I am attending SFU to follow my dreams of becoming a world-travelling Archaeologist. I enjoy organic gardening and am happiest with dirt under my fingernails.

Arabic Drums and Zills Workshop with Shahrahzad (events » arts) Saturday, May 10, 2008 - 1:30 PM 26 RSVPs Arabic Rhythm Drums and Zills
The first hour and fifteen will be spent learning five common rhythms in Arabic dance. We will learn a rhythm and drum it, then listen to that rhythm in musical context, and drum it again. If there aren't enough drums to go around those big clear water bottles are great for beating on. The second half we will learn rhythms with the zills, alone and paired with dance moves. We will try drills and rhythm trade-offs for a fun challenge. We will finish off with a drum/zill combo where we dance to our own music!

For all levels of dance experience. Please wear comfortable clothing. Water and snack provided.
When registering please request drums and/or zills if needed - you will not be empty handed!

Shahrahzad
Shahrahzad is an accomplished dancer, teacher, and choreographer. Studying bellydance since 1994, in 2007 she completed the Cairo Seminar in Egypt with Mahmoud Reda and Farida Fahmy. That same year her troupe, Banat Tariq, took first place in the Troupe category at Ahlan Cairo Nights in Dallas, Texas. In addition to teaching bellydance, Shahrazad teaches ballet, tap, and modern dance.

FOR HIRE: ME!

Do you have chores and tasks that you would LOVE to get done if only you had the time?
You know, things like re-organizing the closet, painting the bathroom, gardening the flower beds in front of the house...
Are you having a party and want a shopper, a waitress-like helper, a dishwasher, and/or a bartender?
Does your library need organizing, or your CD and DVD collections?
I will do almost anything that you need done.

Well... it's official!

I am going to Armenia from June 21-July 25th doing an Archaeological excavation through UCLA. I will be the only Canadian. We get half a day off for July 4th, so I'm thinking I should get half of July 1st off too! haha. I want to bring some piece of Canadiana to share, but I can't bring bacon, and hockey players won't fit in my bag. Guess they are getting flag pins.

After that month is up I want to stay in Armenia for another week or so to do some exploring. We ... read more

On December 30th my facebook status said: "Keyna says Good-bye 2008. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out!"

2008 had some very sucky times for me, especially last Spring when my marriage collapsed and the hurt, drama, rage, tears, etc... that come with such an event. I was only thinking about the crappy times when I wrote that status. I wanted the year to end like it would mean real closure, and was not simply some arbitrary date.

Reading what Martina wrote on the Vanc... read more
