Yes sir, I can boogie

I started bellydancing early in 2003, and have fallen hard in love. I`ve taken classes in fusion mostly and am very happy to be taking classes focusing on egyptian cabaret technique foundations now. It is a welcome change.

Two friends and I have formed a bellydance troupe called "The Fae". Right now we're just startin' out, but are practicing and performing so much, we couldn't be happier!!

I am making great strides toward achieving my bellydance goals of building a dance community locally and of learning more.
On Jan 1, 2008 I launched Fraser Valley Bellydance (www.fraservalleybellydance.com) which hopes to bring together the dance community in our local area from Langley to Agassiz. FVBD is also looking forward to bringing teachers to us monthly for workshops in all sorts of topics. I am greatful for all the support and encouragement I have recieved so far and I hope that FVBD will bring a positive dance force to our lives.

I am newly single, and looking forward to attending SFU in September to follow my dreams of becoming a world-travelling Archaeologist. Living in rez will be a strange experience I'm sure. I enjoy organic gardening and am happiest with dirt under my fingernails.

Rants and Raves

"Did you know there are thirty-two names for love in one of the Eskimo languages?" August said. "And we have just this one. We are so limited, you have to use the same word for loving Rosaleen as you do for loving Coke with peanuts. Isn't that a shame we don't have more ways to say it?'

FVBD presents a workshop with SHAHRAHZAD!

Arabic drums and zills!

The first part will be spent learning five common rhythms in Arabic dance. We will learn a rhythm and drum it, then listen to that rhythm in musical context, and drum it again. The second half we will learn rhythms with the zills, alone and paired with dance moves. We will try drills and rhythm trade-offs for a fun challenge. We will finish off with a drum/zill combo where we dance to our own music!

For all levels of ... read more

Wouldn’t it be exciting be to be able to travel across the world and learn authentic cultural dances? What if those dances could be brought to you!? Of course it would be thrilling to escape to Turkey and dance with the locals, but this is the next best thing. Ruby has done the traveling and gained incredible traditional and authentic experience while in Turkey and is willing to share that experience with us.

Ruby is an internationally known bellydancer who fluent in Turkish (Roma) gypsy ... read more
