Notes to Self...

"Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go into the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius." - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart -

"Man is the only animal who has to be encouraged to live." - Friedrich Nietzsche

"The last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances; to choose one's own way."
-Viktor Frankl-

"The Buddha always told his disciples not to waste their time and energy in metaphysical speculation. Whenever he was asked a metaphysical question, he remained silent. Instead, he directed his disciples toward pratical efforts. One time he said, "Suppose a man is struck by a poisoned arrow and the doctor wishes to take the arrow out immediately. Suppose the man does not want the arrow removed until he knows who shot it, his age, his parents, and why he shot it. What would happen? If he were to wait until all these questions have been answered, the man might die first." Life is so short. It must not be spent in endless metaphysical speculation that does not bring us any closer to the truth." - Thich Nhat Hanh -

Life stuff

My pop was 75 years young yesterday, and my whole family was there for a celebration of his life. Family photos were taken, food was shared, and we all were happy to be there with him. Dad is the oldest left in the Lockhart family, the remaining patriarch of our heritage. There was a lot of love in that room, and we all know that his cancer has us living on borrowed time. Happy Birthday Dad, I love you.

Last weekend, after a lovely spring day, my friend Megan brought together several people in celebration of her 40th year on Earth. Good food, good people and conversations created a joyful evening that ended around the campfire. We all were happy to help honor this great gal for who she is: friend, counselor, potter, cook, house builder, creator of beautiful things, and initiator of fun festivities...may your year be blessed.

This is a brief glimpse into what happens at a housewarming involving paint, brushes, wine, and the permission of the owner to create a mural. Megan is going to use her artistic talents to create the final product from all that we did on this night, but whatever the end product...the base will have been created with fun, laughter, and a whole lotta love.

My friend Megan organized my birthday party this year...it was the first party I have had in a long while. I think I could easily say that the last one I had that involved this many friends involved roller skates and my parents. Needless to say it was special and very sweet to have so many of the people that I hold most dear there to celebrate. Their presence in my life represents the best of all the gifts I could ever be given. This is my little way of saying thank you to them

Yesterday I had the joy of sailing on the Adventuress a beautiful wooden boat that was built in 1913. It is hard to believe that she was almost a derelict at one point in her history when you step on board. She is tended with such love now, and her crews are always rotating, but for years now her mission has been to educate youth regarding the environment. The winds were perfect and the sun was shining down on us...it was truly a gorgeous day for a sail.
