about me
I'm an assistant professor at LSUE in the Education Department.
I'm working on a PhD at LSU- I'm ABD now so I hope to finish by the end of 2009. My major is Human Ecology- Family, Child, and Consumer Sciences.
I have four children- my oldest is getting married in Jan 2009! Yikes!!
I love cats and mini dachshunds. I do belly dancing, yoga, and meditation regularly- planning to get back to weight training once the semester is over. I'm a noob at all of these so your tips and advise are welcome!!! I also have been writing a Fantasy trilogy. I am starting the 3rd novel this month- its a futuristic fantasy, and I'm all wrapped up in it. Don't ask me about it because I could talk forever about it!!!

I have been reading this book- Grandmother's Secrets; The Ancient Rituals and Healing Power of Belly Dancing. The beginning of the book is a memoir, which I found interesting, but it has little to do with belly dancing. However, the second half of the book has been fascinating. The author, Fawsia, makes the claim that all movement originates in the pelvis- even the smallest turn of a finger. I have been pondering that idea. At first I thought it was a stretch. I guessed the connection o...

Oh, hey! At the beginning of the month I got to go to Dallas and see the King Tut exhibit at the art museum. Talk about inspiring! I couldn't get enough of the information, the workmanship, the history- it was a small, but amazing display. They trace his roots so that you get to know the whole fam damly too. And the way the art was displayed mimicked actually traveling through a tomb- with all the dimly lit chambers- unforgetable. I was tickled to hear the music they were playing- defin...

I'm finding out I have an affinity for veil- not that I don't get tangled- because I do! But something about having a piece of fabric as a dance partner is freeing to me. I feel less inhibited, and I think my moves flow more. Class tonight was awesome! Thanks Ilea!

Alas, after a valiant year of promoting belly dancing and yoga in Eunice, the Book Nook must now close its doors. It has been a wondrous journey, and I would do it again in a heartbeat! If it weren't for all that dreaming I wouldn't have the great friends or skills I have now. So November 26th is our last day. I'm still a little in denial about it, but there it is. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
