This little announcement is for everyone who has been following the progress of the Cancer Anxiety study with psilocybin that began at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in 2004. The news is good. We treated the final participant in May, and data analysis is in progress. The team plans to publish results later this year.

Nothing inspired me to submit a blog entry until I came across this passage in the epilogue to The Joyous Cosmology, an essay on the "adventures in the chemistry of consciousness" by Alan Watts. Without analyzing the magic out of it, I was trying to understand why Burning Man means so much to me...why I make sacrifices to participate when it seems as if the energy might be better spent elsewhere. I get it now, and I would like to pass along these insights from Watts to you.

When I first met Alicia, I was so excited to be around her energy, immediately i felt connected to this woman. I saw a mentor in her that mirrored the way i wanted to live my own life....with grace, exuberance, and extreme positivity.
IT IS SO WONDERFUL to see her smiling, and know she is healing. I dedicated a block to her at the temple in BRC, and i hope that had something to do with a beautiful miracle. July 24, 2006

What an amazing connection I had with this goddess at Burningman. We'd met briefly on a couple of occasions, but I had no idea what a powerful. loving, generous, intelligent, AMAZING being she is. She lives big, loves big, and is someone that I feel incredibly privelidged to have an opportunity to get to know.

Oh bla bla bla her profile's all sweet & stuff but don't be fooled...this girl's an ANIMAL! Raaargh! No really, Alicia is an absolute goddess. She's a gem, a gift, a beam of radiant light on the planet. She's really fucking sexy, too. I love watching her wake up to her own glory...and in doing so, she reminds us of our own. She is PURE power and a true friend. I highly recommend knowing her but you'll have to take a number cuz this girl is HOT. Damn it! HOT!

Alicia is intuitive, empathic, honest, kind, smart, cool, beautiful, fun, generous, multi-talented, and to top it off, she radiates an energy that makes us all just want to be in her presence. She's always in the process of growing, becoming more than she once was. As her friend, I feel honored to witness and sometimes even participate in that amazing evolution.
