Restless to start fishing. (blog entry) We have the boat ready to go. Except for loading the net, the last of the food and a few details on the deck. About a days work and we will be done. The salmon haven't decided to join the party, yet. It's a late run this year and it could be two ... read more

Had a wild flight into the Aleutiens. (blog entry) Think this is the wildest country that I've ever seen. We saw a walrus with the huge white tusks from the airplane. I was told I won't feel so warm and fuzzy about them when they go through our nets. Haven't seen a brown bear yet, but I'm told I'... read more

Waiting in the Anchorage airport for my flight to Port Moller. (blog entry) Feeling pumped again about my summer of fishing. Had a afternoon of doubt and depression, but am stoked again about the whole thing. I am really feeling the pull to explore Alaska further with my boat. Next spring I would like to go to Southwest A... read more

Finished my sister's rockwall in her frontyard. (blog entry) Having my misgivings about flying out tomorrow. I'm already missing my dog and boat. Also this is the nicest time of year in Southeast Alaska. Perhaps I'm just bummed that my time off is over and I'm going back to work. I've sure enjoyed taking ... read more

Only one more day and I fly to Port Moller. (blog entry) Have my two huge duffles packs for what I think I will need for two and a half months in the Aleutiens. About ten pairs of fishing gloves, I can buy more from the processor. My heavy rubber gear, enough diving gear to free dive and cut net out of ... read more

We have the boat ready to go. Except for loading the net, the last of the food and a few details on the deck. About a days work and we will be done. The salmon haven't decided to join the party, yet. It's a late run this year and it could be two weeks before fish and game allows us to fish. Our diesel stove started giving us fits and we had to shut it down. I rebuilt the firebox using the special cement, today. We checked into the "hotel" because we have to wait twenty-four hours for the cem... read more

Think this is the wildest country that I've ever seen. We saw a walrus with the huge white tusks from the airplane. I was told I won't feel so warm and fuzzy about them when they go through our nets. Haven't seen a brown bear yet, but I'm told I'll see plenty once we start fishing. Our boat is on the pad and we are getting it ready. The skipper is super happy with me because I've been plowing through the list of things to get done. I'm loving being in the fishing camp. I think I'm gaining ... read more

Feeling pumped again about my summer of fishing. Had a afternoon of doubt and depression, but am stoked again about the whole thing. I am really feeling the pull to explore Alaska further with my boat. Next spring I would like to go to Southwest Alaska. Yakitat, Kodiak Island and then Prince William sound. This would be really getting off the beaten path that most cruisers go. Most people make it to Glacier Bay National Park and then go back down South. Think my time in the Aleutiens on a fis... read more

Having my misgivings about flying out tomorrow. I'm already missing my dog and boat. Also this is the nicest time of year in Southeast Alaska. Perhaps I'm just bummed that my time off is over and I'm going back to work. I've sure enjoyed taking a cruise and working on my boat and other pet projects. My trip to Glacier Bay got written up in the Electronic Latitude 38, under June 4th. They also put four of my pictures up. I'm good friends with the editor and that helped get it published, but ... read more

Have my two huge duffles packs for what I think I will need for two and a half months in the Aleutiens. About ten pairs of fishing gloves, I can buy more from the processor. My heavy rubber gear, enough diving gear to free dive and cut net out of the prop. Books, DVD's for the computor, lot's of wetones, hoody sweatshirts, my heavy insulated coveralls of course the required extratuff boots, withs liners and heavy socks and such. Seems pretty gay to go somewhere where I'm not going to see a w... read more
