When Thelonious Monk first met Abbey Lincoln, he walked up to her and said, “I like the way you stand.” I remembered that line when I first met Will-- he holds and carries himself with such quiet easy grace. His eyes gleam with wry intelligence, but when he is very happy he closes them, and looks beatific (see the pictures in his profile if you don’t believe me). He has impeccable taste in movies, music, and food, AND he introduced me to the highly useful phrase, “California vagina sailors”(some curse him for that). He makes both noise and things, and he is quality all the way through. No wonder I would walk backwards and barefoot through hell to bask in his presence.
