about me
I began to study Middle Eastern Dance in the early 90's out of a whim to de-stress from a demanding writing/editing career. Luckily, I joined a thriving academy at the time where I studied from many talented teachers for several years as I became completely captivated by all aspects of this art form; learning, growing, feeling positive, the benefits are endless. I can say with certainty, it is all true. To be honest though, the only other aspect of my life I have felt this completely intense about is my daughter, born in 2000. Immediately following her entry into this world, I took a break from dancing for two years to focus on her and moved to Brantford from the GTA.
Currently (when I'm not in my pajamas or renovating houses), I own and operate a Middle Eastern Dance studio in Brantford called Ancient Moves (in addition to performing and teaching).
My daughter, who is now seven, continues to be the most cherished part of my life and, in turn, she is my biggest fan!
I continue to write on my own, which is now far more enjoyable when I don't have deadlines to meet. Perhaps I'll even venture to publish again ... one day!
... and if you've come this far, why not add the newly developed Lebanese Belly Dance tribe to your tribe.net profile? It can be found at: tribes.tribe.net/lebanesebellydance .
Joining this group will keep you posted on related-topics; and a great way to build a network of like-minded enthusiasts. Thanks for reading this far!

My Blog

I cannot believe it has been two years since I last logged into tribe.net!!! It was not with lack of want to... there just has not been time. Plus, a need to stop the insanity with how many hours I'm online and not dancing. Ugh!!! In the meantime, it has been an incredible two years. My daughter is growing up, FAST! I opened a new studio which my husband and I renovated ourselves (things are going great). Oh yeah, I got married at the beginning of 2009. All the while, still dancing, teaching,... read more

... once in while, we are blessed with seeing something so beautiful, we believe there is nothing ugly in the world... if only for a moment.

Here we go again! Two members of the ATS (American Tribal Style) group, Shades of Araby, visited the Ancient Moves Dance Studio on August 26th. We were so happy to have Valizan and Maral show us the wonderful world of ATS (the Egyptian, the Arabic, group dynamics, cueing techniques, etc... it was oodles of fun and info.). Stay tuned to find out when they will be visiting us next!

I don't know why they appear so dark when I watch them; and the music seems to be a bit faster, but I thought I'd post these anyway. I'm just learning all this techie stuff so please excuse the rawness of it all:

August 18th was a totally awesome for anyone who attended the Drumming Workshop at Ancient Moves studio in terms of learning, laughing, and being belly dancers.
Jihan was very open and personable and what an amazing drummer/dancer! It was a wonderful atmosphere as the ladies further expanded their dance training.
Congratulations to everyone who attended. Karima looks forward to seeing you all at the next one!
