Step One
- Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friends list (or friends' friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.
And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out; it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call but it's better to let the person know that you'll be getting them an item so that the person doesn't receive an item twice or even more.
There are no real rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish and it might come true. Give and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1. Relaxation / stress reduction - Anything and everything from smelly stuff to massages to music suggestions to tips on how you relax. Many of you know about the numerous health issues I have had over the years. What some of you may NOT know is that stress tends to aggravate every one of them in the worst possible way (yeah... stress is bad all around, but in this particular case, you can actually visually / physically tell when I am stressed, as most of my pain / discomfort becomes increasingly noticable).
2. LJ paid account - it's not something I do for myself, but I do kind of like it when I have it. Especially the icons. :)
3. Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs - It's been a while, but I especially love the little sample fragrances. And I can make those last FOREVER.
4. Health tips - Goes along with #1. Medical practioners, voodoo priests, quirky home remedies. I don't really care, as long as it helps pain relief.
5. Tea parties and quiet times - I know that finding time is sometimes hard, but my favorite "gifts" involve just getting together with folks one-on-one and sharing some tea or food or talk.
6. Costuming - anything from my SCA persona (gypsy / Irish Traveller) to my new LARP PC (think sultry torch singer - lots of green...) I can always made use of costuming items. Garb can pretty much be anything medieval, but Irish in flavor is preferred.
7. Music - I am in serious need of new music. Mix CDs are great (and give me lots of new things to listen to). The only thing I REALLY don't care for is Rap. Anything from classical to jazz to rock, etc. is welcome.
8. Pennsic stuff - this can be anything from stuff to decorate my tent to stuff to make my kitchen a happier place.
9. Socks / comfy clothes - I love fuzzy socks and sweats, sweaters or polar fleece... basically anything soft and comfy.
10. Books, books and more books - I have a TON of books on my Amazon list that I'm still waiting to get. OR suggestions for new books I don't have up there are welcome. I like books. :)
