<div>Creativity, Flow and Movement plus Twin Hooping! with Michele
Sunday 22 3-7pm
102 Brewers Ln, Carrboro NC
$40

In this workshop i will ask you to break out of yourself and free up your movement practice. We will play games to empower and express emotions in our dance as well as play with a variety of physical experiences such as: weight, gravity, softness, hardness, fluidity and abrupt changes, tension, and speed variation. We will play with body mechanics and talk about some movement theories. You will learn about creating a practice to keep and increase your range of motion.

During this journey we will explore many different methods of moving with the hoop: jumps, isolations, body rolls, tosses, transitional spaces, move creation and how moves can 'fit' together, creating flow. And of course, if you can do it with one, why not two?

About me
Dancing was my first aspiration and joy in life. Through hooping I discovered that dance truly is my home. I have been dancing with hoops since 2002 and I am also a hatha yoga instructor as well as a formally trained visual artist. My thrills in life are for the odd, whimsical, magical and fun.

the right to live? no new news really

<div>I believe it is commonly recognized by various institutions that humans (us, if you're reading this) need 3 things to live. Food. Water. Shelter. The first thing the bill of rights says is that we have the right to life.

Once upon a time, we had these things. Food comes out of the groung just about everywhere. Water, the same. Shelter with a very little imagination applied is also widely available. So what's the problem? How can anyone be poor, how can anyone starve to death. Why do we have to ask permission to be alive? Please bank, can I have some food? Can I have some water? Can I have a house? It's not even the banks land!

My Grandfather told me that electricity, water, telephone, all used to be owned by the government and it was very affordable becuase they were opperated not for a profit but as a public service. Water's the last one left for us but other humans elsewhere aren't so lucky. Water is the in targets for privitazation. I don't want to pay to be alive. We have right to life. How can we exersise that? Any suggestions? One organizations is trying to get the right to water added to the UN bill of rights. I doubt that will help but i signed it. http://article31.org/ you can too if you like. But really i want to know what do you think we can do to get our first inalienable right back.

<div>Cheat me once, cheat me can't be cheated again?

The worst thing is that this only happened in the 80's, most voters should remember this. (not me i'm waaaaay to young)

i recently remebered asking my Dad, when i was just a wee lass, what he thought about Al Gore and George Bush. He said, George Bush is a theif something something, banking, something something. So in light of recent events i thought i'd look it up. Why isn't it all over the news that John Mcain was involved in that crap?! Of course he pushed for the stupid bailout.

excerpts from wikipedia of course http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savings_and_loan_crisis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five

Deregulation
Although the deregulation of S&amp;Ls gave them many of the capabilities of banks, it did not bring them under the same regulations as banks, and the new legislation allowed them to enter new lending businesses with very little oversight.

Imprudent real estate lending
In an effort to take advantage of the real estate boom (outstanding US mortgage loans: 1976 $700 billion; 1980 $1.2 trillion)[citation needed] and high interest rates of the late 1970s and early 1980s, many S&amp;Ls lent far more money than was prudent, and to risky ventures which many S&amp;Ls were not qualified to assess. L. William Seidman, former chairman of both the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Resolution Trust Corporation, stated, "The banking problems of the '80s and '90s came primarily, but not exclusively, from unsound real estate lending."[3]

Lincoln Savings and Loan
The Lincoln Savings led to the Keating Five political scandal, in which five U.S. senators were implicated in an influence-peddling scheme. It was named for Charles Keating, who headed Lincoln Savings and made $300,000 as political contributions to them in the 1980s. Three of those senators – Alan Cranston (D-CA), Don Riegle (D-MI), and Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ) – found their political careers cut short as a result. Two others – John Glenn (D-OH) and John McCain (R-AZ) – were rebuked by the Senate Ethics Committee for exercising "poor judgment" for intervening with the federal regulators on behalf of Keating.[10]

[edit] Silverado Savings and Loan
Silverado Savings and Loan collapsed in 1988, costing taxpayers $1.3 billion. Neil Bush, son of then Vice President of the United States George H. W. Bush, was Director of Silverado at the time. Neil Bush was accused of giving himself a loan from Silverado, but he denied all wrongdoing.[2]

The US Office of Thrift Supervision investigated Silverado's failure and determined that Neil Bush had engaged in numerous "breaches of his fiduciary duties involving multiple conflicts of interest." Although Bush was not indicted on criminal charges, a civil action was brought against him and the other Silverado directors by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; it was eventually settled out of court, with Bush paying $50,000 as part of the settlement, the Washington Post reported.[11]

As a director of a failing thrift, Bush voted to approve $100 million in what were ultimately bad loans to two of his business partners. And in voting for the loans, he failed to inform fellow board members at Silverado Savings &amp; Loan that the loan applicants were his business partners.[citation needed]

Neil Bush paid a $50,000 fine and was banned from banking activities for his role in taking down Silverado, which cost taxpayers $1.3 billion. A Resolution Trust Corporation Suit against Bush and other officers of Silverado was settled in 1991 for $26.5 million.

    </a>
<div>Below is a story I am reposting from Natalie's blog. It really resonates with me an my feelings about myself and my interations with others and i wanted to share it with my friends that may not know Natalie. The reason why this is important to me at this time in part due to my job. I spend the majority of my day 5 days a week with people who say things like "I hate fat people" and think that is ok. Combating this energy in combination with other, by themselves, trival unpleasentries is causing me to be a little more than cynical. That is something i need to take control of.

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, 'My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all.

One is Evil. - It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.'

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?'

The old Cherokee simply replied, 'The one you feed.'

The idea, which i think is extremely American, that we have the power to craft our dreams into physical reality is at the root of my personal philosophy. (The photo is of a woman who has worked (out) to manifest fer dream. Her moto is Dedicated, Determined, Disiplined. She is a 71 year old personal trainer right here in good ol' Baltimore)

That is something that every aspect of my life relates back too. I am a person who people thought would never graduated high school, who may not be capable of living independantly. I have surived being an orphan, a barrage of foster care homes, running the streets as a child without being enrolled in school amongst other Oprah Book Club type senarios. If the concepts of fate and destiny played a part in my life i would certainly be living the adult counterpart to my childhood expirences.

I survived by using the tools i had (a brilliant and amazingly supportive extended family most importantly) to craft the life I wanted to have instead of believing I was relegated to live in the expiriences of whatever happens to me. This is why art and dance are so attractive to me, they exisit in the imagination until they are manifested by you, creating evidance that proves we are only what we want to be and the power to change is ours.

That sounds really good, except it is so hard! I thought once i got through college, I had won. Success! I made it. However I had only begun learning what is really possible. Now that I have been out of school as long as I was there, I'm left asking myself where are those manifested visions, where is that hope and determination? I am doing what everyone else does. I take care of myself, I have a good time, but that is not what i wanted. I want to create something lasting that lets people know that they CAN. But to do that I have to be open to myself and others continously, i have to work tirelessly and know that there is no finish line. What I didn't know is that the Good Wolf requires A LOT more food then the Bad Wolf and the Bad Wolf is always waiting paitently.</div>

Why must other Americans continue to subjugate black people? Haven't we been through enough? Even the article ment to provide objective facts sheding light on the situation doesn't give all the details about what all the black students endured before getting in the fight with the white student. Students invited Mychal Bell to a party, when he arrived he was beaten by a group of white students and threatened with a shot gun. Then the following day Mychal Bell and 5 other black students beat up a white student involved in the attack at school. Still after months of media attention none of the white students have been brought up of any charges.

WASHINGTON - Civil rights activist Al Sharpton says Congress should expand hate crime laws to deal more forcefully with noose-hanging incidents like the one in the Jena Six case in order to squelch what he called a sharp rise in racism.

Sharpton, a New York-based reverend, was to testify Tuesday before the House Judiciary Committee about the case of six black teenagers in the small Louisiana town of Jena charged with the beating of a white student. The incident happened after nooses were hung from a tree on a high school campus there — a symbol of the violence of the segregation era.

Since the Jena case began attracting national attention, there have been a number of other nooses found in high-profile incidents around the country — in a black Coast Guard cadet's bag, on a Maryland college campus, and, last week, on the office door of a black professor at Columbia University in New York.

"Nooses, the 'n' word, a Klansman's hood, and the burning cross are the clearest symbols of hate for black America," Sharpton said in remarks prepared for delivery to the committee.

Last week, one of the Jena Six, Mychal Bell, was sentenced to 18 months in jail after a judge determined he violated the terms of his probation for a previous conviction.

Racial tensions began rising in Jena in August 2006 after a black student sat under a tree known as a gathering spot for white students. Three white students later hung nooses from the tree. They were suspended but not prosecuted.

More than 20,000 demonstrators gathered recently in Jena to protest what they perceive as differences in how black and white suspects are treated.

<div>To reduce our family's pesticide exposure we utilize the Environmental Working Group's "Dirty Dozen" list of the top 12 pesticide-containing fruits and vegetables (peaches, apples, bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, lettuce, imported grapes, pears, spinach, potatoes; more at www.foodnews.org). The average eater can reduce their pesticide exposure by 90 percent by purchasing organically grown versions of these items or simply avoiding them altogether.
