I have done NOLO bait for about four years in a row and it has definitely beat the population (which was of Biblical plague proportions) back...i also did Guinea hens which eat about 200--300 a day....

Today I was out in my garden planting potatoes and onions when I heard the Cranes. They were circaling (as they do) overhead, not fifty feet in the air (an unusually low altitude for the Sandhills). They were circling right over our pond. I thought "wouldn't it be amazing if they landed in our pond" .
