My Bellydance Blog

I am constantly amazed by the shear number and quality of talented, graceful people I know!! So many people that I have so much to learn from!

Sadly, I missed a number of performances at the Sacred World Interdependance Day event (and that's understating how late I was...let's just say that my dance partner handled the situation with an amazing amount of grace and *many* other people contributed to making my lateness less of an issue than it could have been) but I did get to catch a few b... read more

As some of you know, Pax had a rather nasty infection for awhile, and from Earth Day through May I spent a lot of time commuting between Bricca and Easthampton. He's better now, thankfully. And I have a better understanding of how people manage hours-a-day commutes.

Then, I had bellydance stuff scheduled for every weekend in June!!! I try not to do that - I hardly see Pax at all then. I managed my Clarion performance better than I was afraid I would (though it really taught me how littl... read more

Some of you may have heard that I've been out in Eastern Mass since Tuesday taking care of my husband - he had an infected abcess that wasn't responding well to the first set of antibiotics.

Two more doctor visits, an emergency room trip and three more kinds of antibiotics later, and he's doing much better. Of course, they still expect 6-8 weeks for a full recovery. I have narrowly avoided more car accidents than I care to count, and bought about three complete new outfits - because I ... read more

My fondest wish is to be a work-at-home(ish) Mom who makes a sustainable community GO. Unfortunately, I've not yet figured out how to apply for that sort of position, nor how to keep a roof over my head + food in the children's bellies while doing so. I'm open to hints.

Butterfly screams

I'm thinking of trying to pick up a second job this winter - I'd really don't want to have to tap the house-fund for the oil bill.   Pax thinks it would help me calm down about money (everything is tons more expensive, really!) and focus on something other than all the goodies I can't eat this holiday season.  I think my boss thinks that it's a ploy to ask for a raise.  I wish!  I *am* overdue for my review, but I'm really not hopeful.  If I'm exceptionally lucky, I'll keep up with the fed's inflation rate, which is less and less in touch with reality.  (At least my boss now *knows* that I'm supposed to have a raise review.  But that's another story.)

It would necessitate a break from bellydance, but I'm feeling pretty down about dance still.  My class on Monday was great - tonight's not so much.  The three of us on Monday just clicked!  It was a small class because of the holiday, and I'd never danced with the other woman before. It was like we were all there to do our jobs - and we did them.   It was really nice.  I miss having that more often.

I *so* wish I could get paid to dance.  I don't mind long rehearsals, dull repetitions, any of that.   (Actually, we have a paying gig lined up for the spring!  I'm excited about that!)  It feels like doing Good Work.  My actual job just feels like pushing electrons from point A to point B back to point A.  It's very unrewarding. (and they took away our turkeys + Christmas party - how's that for a morale boost?)

I was going to try to work retail, but I think I'm too late for that.   Any other suggestions?   Food service is right out.  Obviously, I'm busy from 8-5, but Pax said that weekends would be OK (temporarily).

Bah.. should have been in bed two hours ago.

The highest glory of civilization, in my opinion, is that we don't have to eat the icky bits.   At least not as icky bits.

Tonight, I learned the difference between tuna in a can and salmon in a can.

The salmon has BONES.  And not just cute little ribs that virtually disolve, but VERTEBRAE.

EWWWWW.

My food should not have vertebrae when I'm trying to eat it.

Hell, I don't want to think about my food's vertebrae at all!  That's why I went vegetarian.

That said, I suppose that it's really no wonder that I've lost 15 pounds since I started trying to learn to cook in earnest.

ewwwww...

My mother-in-law's scale says that I've crossed the 140 mark, and you can really tell in these. Damn chicken arms. I've always had very *graceful* arms, so it's odd to feel I need to work on them!

I'd also only had about 3 hours of sleep in these pictures, and no caffine. I guess I'm glad I can still pull that sort of thing. It's been getting harder as I get older, and I was starting to be really concerned about how well I'll handle sleeping when we finally get around to having a baby.
