Morning Coffee
what if I walk down a city street
that could be anywhere
and find nothing but the asphalt
flowerless in the cool air
sturdy with mysterious cracks
what if there is a coffee shop
scented with african roast
and a fro...

To Hannah, at the Foster Home
Hannah, this house is huge
which is why I built this cubbyhole
at the end of the closet,
which is not a closet, but a ship,
and you may go anywhere
On the days I am at sea
the merchant in me s...

The Permanence of Your Ride
Each one beneath you in the same trust
The wind in a song of secrets flying
by you, an open wind, where you were touching
all the lights on the dashboard to see
which one worked the top down,
& sent the vo...

All Night I Slept
(blog entry)
All Night I Slept
All night I slept with my neck broken
into the crook of your arm,
nude with solitude & damp with fatique
I saw the big and little dipper
spoon stars into the darkness
through the open window on the top floor.
In the ear...

Some Days I Hear the Sound of Bells

Some Days I Hear the Sound of Bells
Some days I hear the sound of bells
beyond the heavy mountain's brow
A universe that holds a coast
and flecks of lyrics, sirens of gold
There is a spinning piece of globe
beyond the universe I've b...

and a frothy cream I can't identify
but love for its white purity
what if I finish my awakening
at a table by the window
watching the gray sky as prim
as a spinster and firm
with a wake up call
the city trucks that move slow
old men with air b...

Hannah, this house is huge
which is why I built this cubbyhole
at the end of the closet,
which is not a closet, but a ship,
and you may go anywhere
On the days I am at sea
the merchant in me sailing,
I will snap you photographs
of what might have been
I will splinter the heart
of a huge shipwreck,
to carve a wooden lace
of sea salts into a headdress,
that is magical, and opens,
into a permanent shelter
Hannah, no one knows the...

The Permanence of Your Ride
Each one beneath you in the same trust
The wind in a song of secrets flying
by you, an open wind, where you were touching
all the lights on the dashboard to see
which one worked the top down,
& sent the volume up
You loved the coquetry of stalling
on back roads & adjusting the mirror
a certain way, so that you could see yourself
& all the rides ,left slowed by the dust
You never wanted anything that wasn't
high maintenance & easily envied ...

All Night I Slept
All night I slept with my neck broken
into the crook of your arm,
nude with solitude & damp with fatique
I saw the big and little dipper
spoon stars into the darkness
through the open window on the top floor.
In the early hours I heard the rain
in a metal downpour
and I stood for a moment
in the blustering drumbeat
No stars, no sun, just a clean awakening,
a steady sequence of gray lines
much like the ones I had drawn
in my mind
about misgivings & giving in...

A universe that holds a coast
and flecks of lyrics, sirens of gold
There is a spinning piece of globe
beyond the universe I've built
that does not know my face as mine
has no idea of heavy stone
There is a long train through the pass
that I can watch in black snake turns
and think of blue shores and of light
that in the fading red of sun
pull at my heart and tou...
