Check out the Chinese Materia Medica by Bensky.
There are many Chinese herbs which are animals and animal products...
ex... Deer Antler, Abalone Shell, Turtle Shell, Cicada Moltings, Earthworm... the list goes on.
Not so much of the pharmacolog...

sometimes, and this is a rare sometimes, boiling in plain water (maybe with vinegar) will remove the excess flux, but it isn't going to rid your piece of the discoloration from heating... also ultrasonic with a really good ultrasonic liquid might ...
