A simplistic view I suppose

Over the last few weeks I've heard quite often people I know and strangers making statements like "he should already know that, and if he doesn't it's his own fault and I shouldn't have to tell him" and my personal favorite "Well that's just the way I am and if she doesn't like that's too damn bad"

Now I've always assumed that people who are invovled in relationships are generally good BF's/Gf's otherwise they would be left by thier partner for someone who treats them better. So when I hear statements like that it makes me stop and think about my view of relationships.
Now I've always assumed that relationships involve a level of compromise and paitence on both sides, also there is an understanding that your BF/GF is not perfect and they come with baggage in one form or another, and that you want to be with them regardless and will help them sort through any baggage they may have and vise versa. (I would hope that the 1 or 2 women i know that i'd like to have a relationship already know this about me, cause apparently i can be read like a book). I also was under the impression that you are suppose to discuss any problems with your partner instead of bitching to others and letting the problem festerand grow until it damages the relationship.
But when I hear statements like the ones I mentiond and many others coming from people I know who are in long term relationships I start to think and have come to the conclusion that maybe my way of looking at relationships is a little simplistic and nieve, and doesn't fit very well in this world.

Though I'm not sure if I'd want to be in a relationship where it's all about me or all about my partner. But each to thier own, some people may need to have it all about them, and if both people in that relathionship are happy, I can still comment and raise questions but who am I to judge.
