about me
Many varied interests including (but not limited to) mountain and road biking, rollerblading, collecting antique books and records, appreciating classic cars.
Like many people I have a list of things I want to do in life. Some I've already checked off (skydiving, shipwreck scuba diving, international travel, mountain and road bike races just to name a few).

Some of my friends wonder why I live so far from the city centers out in Fenton (aside from the fact that my family has been in this area for ages). I'm only an hour north of downtown Detroit and all the crowded subburbs there. They do have thei...

I won't pretend to be eloquent, but here are a couple things I've learned the hard way over the last few years.
Work is just work. It doesn't define who I am. A beer or glass of wine are just another beverage, and I don't have to drink one with e...

Who needs a good memory when there is such a wonderful tool as the internet.
Just looked up some song lyrics I couldn't recall (much to my annoyance) and there they were in seconds.

Some of my friends wonder why I live so far from the city centers out in Fenton (aside from the fact that my family has been in this area for ages). I'm only an hour north of downtown Detroit and all the crowded subburbs there. They do have their attractions - all kinds of restaurants and shops, great night life, and so on.
I've been on vacation since June 27th. In that time, I've enjoyed the rabbits running all over my yard, deer wandering through, the attached pic is of a tiny bird th...

The listing for Bessie Smith alone is 5 pages ranging from 1923 to 1933. Some very rare recordings are available. The downloads are free with a link to donate if you want to help maintain the site.
The picture attached is from a Detroit record label that was only in business for two or so years in the early 19...

Gar Wood built Miss America X to challenge England's Kaye Don's Miss England III to keep the Harmsworth Trophy for America. Since the rules required that competitors use only products built in their own country, Gar Wood used V-12 Packard engines. Since he needed more power, he used 4 of them, modified to produce 1,600 HP each. Placed in two rows of two, with each pai...

Work is just work. It doesn't define who I am. A beer or glass of wine are just another beverage, and I don't have to drink one with everyone else to have a good time. Most important, time will pass whether I make good use of it or not. So I enjoy every day no matter what is going on in the world around me. There is always something that makes me smile if I look for it.

Mercer-Raskin: Theme from "Laura" 1944
Laura is the face in the misty night
Footsteps that you hear down the hall
The laugh that floats on a summer's night
That you might never quite recall
And you see Laura on a train that is passing through
Those eyes how familiar they seem
She gave your very first ...
