In your light I learn how to love...

Gender
Male
about me
I love creating art and music.

My art heals from the harshness of the world. It is also cathartic for me and allows me to voice feelings more powerfully than I can in words. As for my motive, often it is to free myself from the darkness inside me and in the world. I achieve this by facing directly that darkness through my work; it's about survival and regeneration between these external and internal worlds. Often my art attempts to make sense out of senselessness or find a glimmer of hope out of despair and suffering. As Nietzche says, "Life is awful, but art makes it endurable."

Dominant visual structures include window (representing my inner and outer self); the nature-man connection; the tree (which represents me striving to establish roots.) Hence, my artwork tends to focus on abandonment rage, isolation, suffering, injustice, as well as a longing to feel connected to something larger than myself. It exposes my own frailty, folly, and failings at the same time it exposes the frailty, folly, and failings of the world. With no myths and history handed down from generation to generation in my family, my art seeks to create my own myth and history, which I hope to hand down to future generations. As the Samurai Creed states most eloquently, "I have no parents. I make heaven and earth my parents."

While I grew up without religion, art and music has taken its place, filling a spiritual void, becoming essentially my spirit guide, helping me seek higher truth and enlightenment. It's also my confessional, where I lay down my burden, and express my deepest love.

My Testimonials

January 2, 2006
This is the first testimonial I have ever written about anyone. But then Andy Knight is a first for me as well. I grew up on fairytales, the characters in these stories real to me, as I yearned for the day I would meet princes and princesses, dragons and wizards myself. I was still awaiting this day when Andy came into my life. A real white knight, three dimensional and flesh and blood, and therefore far, far more than the brave and noble knights in my storybooks. As pure of heart, as true to his oaths, as loyal and unswaying, but yes, better than the make believe knights. For one thing, Andy has more range than they do. He isn't always so singleminded in his quest to save the damsel in distress from a dragon, or to fight for his King against a dark foe. He has other interests! For one, Andy is an artist with the kind of vision and scope you don't find in those with only one way of looking at and portraying the world. He paints, he sculpts, he draws, he assembles, based upon the dictates of his vivid imagination as well as his Muse! The medium is of no consequence, for his talent shines through anything he puts his attention to. Which extends beyond visual art to music, poetry, narrative, and an art form more important than any of these. The art of living beautifully, of coming from Grace and humility, unselfconscious and perhaps unaware of the magnitude and power of his gifts. Yes, this white knight is most gifted of all in the art of being alive, looking at the world with eyes of childlike wonder, grateful to be learning and willing to be vulnerable and real.

As a result, Andy is the kind of teacher who touches the lives of his students in ways in which they are profoundly changed, waking them up to their potential instead of their limitations.

He is the kind of father who has not forgotten what it is to be a child, knowing how to inspire his son and daughter to grow and learn, yet never being too old to play in the ways that delight them.

His music is magic, lifting people off their seats to sing and dance along as it weaves its spell through the air.

And as a friend and white knight? Endlessly patient with unlimited kindness and abundant love to offer, even for a damsel in distress who seems unwilling or unprepared to be rescued! Despite all valiant and capable efforts on his part. Andy and his steed are ever ready to help even the most reluctant of damsels through the darkest forests to a new day.

With humor, perseverance, style and quiet grace, this white knight brings fairytales to life. Making this a more magical place to live, and telling us all that dreams do come true.

Andy is gracious, interesting, funny, kind, mellow, easy to talk to, and an all around pleasure to be around. It makes me smile just to think that there is a sweet person like him in the world.

I am delighted to know Andy and anticipate sharing his wealth of perception, appreciation and creativity.
