about me
I am a free spirit (or at least an inexpensive one), dancing fool, and chemist who also has a fondness for alchemy and other forms of magic. Alchemy is all about transformations; usually the transformation of "base" metals, such as lead, into gold. I eschew such blatant materialism and focus my energy on the transformation of knowledge and wisdom into joy. I love science and view 'natural philosophy', as it used to be called, as a method for deep explorations and respect for nature. When I am out of the lab I gravitate toward anything but logic. I have a particular fondness for Art in all its forms... visual, written, musical, film ...and on and on. I care passionately about human rights, freedom of expression, peace, people, our dear irreplaceable planet, and people - especially those who care about me.

I am down-to-earth, secure, bright, warm, open-minded, playful, generous, affectionate, and above all positive.

My Testimonials

January 10, 2007
I got nothin' but love for this guy.
He's intelligent, thoughtful and always has a kind word to say. At times when my closest friends weren't there for me, Mark would leave me an email that day or comment on a photo I had posted. It really brightened my day.

He is always genuine and comes with good intentions. That alone is almost impossible to give 100% guarantee on, but I will stand by that statement with all of me.

If you're looking for a wonderful guy who's caring and will always have a positive and warm disposition nearly everytime you talk to him......look no further.

Thanks for being my friend.

My Blog

by Khalil Gibran

Pity the nation that is full of beliefs and empty of religion.
Pity the nation that wears a cloth it does not weave, eats a bread it does not harvest, and drinks a wine that flows not from its own wine-press.
Pity the nation that acclaims the bull as hero, and that deems the glittering conqueror bountiful.
Pity the nation whose statesman is a fox, whose philosopher is a juggler, and whose art is the art of patching and mimicking.
Pity the nation whose sages are dumb w... read more

Has anyone ever wondered how the sand and civilizations of Iraq and Iran ever came to lie atop our oil. Don’t the citizens and residents of those nations realize that their lives will be fine if they just get out of the way and let the USA exploit this natural resource to our hearts content. Hey, we may even give you a few cents on the dollar for what we take.

If you love her, TELL HER! (or 22 ways to make your girl smile)

I first saw this posted by my friend Little Flower and found it true in all respects including her suggestion to repost it. This repost is in part a tribute to my late father, the dearest and sweetest man I know, who would have appreciated it also. While I currently have no one to bestow these acts of tender gifts upon I remain ready to give them when an appropriate woman comes along.

1 . Tell her she is beautiful (no... read more

In March, July, October, May the ides fall on the 15th day… and in May so does my birthday. Yes, it falls as Taurus, the grounded, sensual, sturdy bull, recedes in the heavens but before Gemini arrives. I plan to do some celebrating on Saturday May 12th at the Mint at 6010 W. Pico Blvd. (@ Crescent Heights Blvd.) in West L. A. where my friend Vessy Mink and her band will be performing. Vessy is a luminous, warm-hearted woman and a wonderful musician. I am confident you will love her show. The... read more

My soul remains weighted down and darkened by the violence that occurred at Virginia Tech Monday. Can someone who knows no one involved ever possibly comprehend the loss, heartache and pain which even one violent death causes to those who loved the victim? Now, multiply that by the number of dead and injured and how much further from our grasp is a true understanding of the impact of these events. How diminished are my trauma and my feelings of vulnerability being so geographically distant fr... read more
