Happy UNbirthday!
Thu, April 12, 2007 - 4:59 AMDoing something good for someone without expecting anything in return.
So for quite awhile it was random Acts of Kindness--pass-it-on cards attached to a $5 bill, left anonymously somewhere.
At Christmas it was CD case calendars which cost only pennies to make and were enormously fun to make and share with total strangers.
And I have been looking for something new, another way to play the game.
So here it is.
I have been enjoying card making--which also has been really inexpensive. A bit of embroidery thread, a few scraps of brightly colored paper, some love and attention to assemble and a place to put loving and happy thoughts.
And as any card maker knows, unless you have an enormous family or circle of friends, you run out of people and occasions to give them greeting cards. So here I have a whole shoe box full of bits and bobs, a cupboard full of papers, card stock etc and all my greeting cards to date have been lovingly assembled and delivered. Yet the urge to make cards is still strong.
So, a little thought flew by and said "why not connect the two?"
Brilliant!
Beautiful!
Yes, I'd love to!
So I have been happily making Happy Unbirthday cards
With a short message about how I dont know you and it's probably not your birthday but I want you to have this anyway and I hope you have an enormously incredibly outrageously wonderful day.
I also like to include a copy of We Are The New Civilization by Flemming Funch on the left side of the card.
What a hoot! One for the first person I see in the mall, one for someone I meet walking down the street, for the lady at the grocery store counter. The looks on their faces, the love. It's best when I can do it anonymously. Oh yes, I sign my name. I am just saying that people feel better about such a gift if they arent immediately put in the situation of wondering what this crazy lady wants from them by giving them this. And wondering how to respond.
So if you havent gotten one of my Happy UNbirthday cards, just allow me to wish you a very Happy Unbirthday! And hope that you have an amazingly fantastically scrump-dillyiscious day!

We are the New Civilization
We are here.
We are waking up now, out of the past, to dream a bigger dream.
We are friends and equals, we are diverse and unique, and we're united
for something bigger than our differences.
We believe in freedom and cooperation, abundance and harmony.
We are a culture emerging, a renaissance of the essence of humanity.
We find our own guidance, and we discern our own truth.
We go in many directions, and yet we refuse to disperse.
We have many names, we speak many languages.
We are local, we are global.
We are in all regions of the world, we're everywhere in the air.
We are universe being aware of itself, we are the wave of evolution.
We are in every child's eyes, we face the unknown with wonder and
excitement.
We are messengers from the future, living in the present.
We come from silence, and we speak our truth.
We cannot be quieted, because our voice is within everyone.
We have no enemies, no boundaries can hold us.
We respect the cycles and expressions of nature, because we are nature.
We don't play to win, we play to live and learn.
We act out of inspiration, love and integrity.
We explore, we discover, we feel, and we laugh.
We are building a world that works for everyone.
We endeavor to live our lives to their fullest potential.
We are independent, self-sufficient and responsible.
We relate to each other in peace, with compassion and respect, we unite
in community.
We celebrate the wholeness within and around us all.
We dance to the rhythm of creation.
We weave the threads of the new times.
We are the new civilization.
