So quiet! (blog entry) I know, it's Tribal Fest time, so a lot of folks travelled to CA, but, it can't be that EVERYONE is there, right?

I don't remember ever seeing Tribe this quiet before...

Re: serial memory vs random access memory (in Brainy Belly Dancers) Yeah, mine functions more on the possibility of progressions, so improv works great, but memorization of larger works - not so much. I have a pipe organ student who has encyclopedic recall if he memorizes harmonic progression, so I guess it work... read more

Re: serial memory vs random access memory (in Brainy Belly Dancers) How's your music theory? Not that you'd have to have the piece analyzed to the nth degree, but I sometimes find it helpful to memorize a piece based on its motives/subjects, countersubjects, and harmonic progressions (at least, their general goal... read more

Re: Pushing through blocks/finding motivation (in The Indigo Belly Dance) Glad you like it - it's a favorite of mine, too. :)

Re: Happy Birthday (in Brainy Belly Dancers) I thought about the Brahms Requiem a few days ago when comparing concerts with longish programs with some colleagues. I'm currently playing a short series of Bach B Minor Mass concerts, and that work alone runs about two hours and fifteen minute... read more

I've decided to take my dancing more seriously, because it's something that has so positively affected my outlook on life that I can't just throw it in the corner, only to look at it twice a week.

I bought a backless black choli. Very bizarre thing, indeed, it is. First, I had to get my boobs to stay in it. (Stay! *pops out* Damn it! No! Stay in there! *fumbles* Where are the ties? In the cups. Damn!) Then I was having issues tying it. Then I didn't tie it tight enough, becau... read more

1. My posture needs all the help it can get.
2. If I practice properly, as I had done yesterday and today, I end up putting a whole pile of things back in joint/in place, and feeling a lot better.
3. It gives me the happy energy to get through my day.
4. I can feel the workout it is giving my muscles, particularly my obliques, triceps, and trapezius muscles.
5. I want to get good at doing the dance itself, too, ya know. :)

I looked into training with local trainers, and I had either the on-steriods-vee-vant-to-pahmp-yoo-aahp! kind of male trainer or the o-mah-GAWD-yer-so-fat-let's-give-you-my-anorexic-barbie-complex female trainer to choose from, so I chose neither. I did realize that one thing that was missing from my daily workout was appropriate weight training. (I realize that yoga, pilates, T-Tapp, and others use body-weight to accomplish this, but I remember having a bit more success with lifting weight... read more

I've been digging dancing a whole lot.

My knees, however, not so much.

I have a mild case of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, so stuff likes to dislocate easily. That's part of the problem.

So I'm wondering if there are good exercises any of you do to strengthen or improve your knees (range of motion, prevention of pain, etc.)? Inquiring minds want to know.

(And I'm not doing, nor do I want to do, any Turkish drops, Brice-drops or anything anywhere near that. I do, at times, do yo... read more
