<div>Shan Coleman and PAGASYS is a Seattle band with heart and soul, upbeat and bittersweet. The music crosses through meditative to danceable, to soaring, with the interweaving of the drum beats of Lowell Ausmus, Soulful guitar by Jian Lakerson, a deep, throbbing bass played by Dan Miller, and the dancing sounds produced by Art Borders on Keys.

										<div>Tribe is a place I visit rarely..... You can find me on FaceBook, also: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=836599792&amp;ref=profile
Along the way during this last year, I had a solo art show, and have started photographing bands. Pagasys is the band I support in many ways: http://www.myspace.com/pagasys They have just completed recording their new CD Shadows at Twilight which will be available soon.

I am looking for a job and cleaning my house of 34 years of junk.... rather mundane. In the midst of it all I am also writing and doing my art work.

The family is awaiting a new little member in mid September. I will be a grandmother 'Nonna' for the second time. This is exciting to see the new generation come. My children are busy with their lives.... productive.... They are such a blessing. </div>

    </a>
										<div>It has been a while since I have posted here..... but I have not been able to find a job since losing my job from Widevine IT Security last September. I join many people who are not on unemployment. Despite a good education and mental skills, it is still a challenge for all of us who are in similar situations. The message to me is that creativity is what must happen - creating my own employment. So in this last week a new shop at Zazzle has begun to have my art on t-shirts, mugs and posters. More items will be available in the near future. People have encouraged me to use my art - so be it. Time to let go of the old and create the new. That is one of the thoughts that floats through my head. http://www.zazzle.com/Awenglow

Then there is the fact that now is the time I have been sorting closets, shelves, drawers, basement - and cleaning out all that is not useable... finding homes for items I do not need and chucking out the rest that is broken or junk. My Gods! 34 Years of accumulation.... I did not make all this mess.... but I am the one cleaning it out.

New beginnings - transformations....

The sculpture photo attached was created in moments of great despair back in 1994.... we have a world full of chaos, pain, destruction - but there is also the beauty. At that time it just felt as though "Mother Humanity" as I called her, was weeping for her children. Truth - life is often destructive and 'Nature' is not benign.... neither is the human heart - and yet the human heart is capable of such great love and joy... it is a constant kaleidoscope of the variety of emotion, energy, creativity that can destroy or build. History reflects this.

My words may sound cynical... but there is truth... and reality.... I am a romantic, and I have found love - I have learned to love, and accept love. May that joy be available to all of you.

So in all the transitions of trying to find my meaning and being, I leave you with these words which sum up where I am now as my efforts are to use my art, my poetry, my life energy to create abundance.

"In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no one sees you, But sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art." (Rumi)

										<div>To Will, Shawanna, Luminier. Thank you for the compliments on my photo change. Amazing what happiness can do :) This photo was cropped from one taken at a musical open house. My friend was standing beside me.

Oh, the changing of the seasons is bringing new energy to my life. I am being stretched in participating in a thisk band, Pagasys - and learning how to sing in a totally different presentation. It is like working in a family, and there is a lot of nurturing that we all do for each other. In the meantime I am getting back to painting the walls to finish the mural at A Gathering AGrove spiritual gift and coffee shop. Tomorrow I will also put on my Notary hat as someone needs me to notarize some legal documents. In the meantime I am working on setting some of my poetry to music ( I was told to do this). Now if I could only make a little money. I did sell one print of one of my art works. Ahhh such is the life of an artist!</div>

The blessings of 'Holy - days'

<div>The tree was up days ago - as tradition, picked by my eldest daughter and myself. Many of my friends eschew trees as being wasteful - but .. our family loves bringing that piece of greenery into the house. Piece by piece we decorated the tree with memories - ornaments from my childhood, ornaments made by our children, silver ornaments from my mother in law for the children. The little lit plastic church from my father's mother when I was a child, the creche scene I sculpted when our son (first child) was standing in his play pen watching. The mantle is lined with the lit miniature houses I have gifted to my marriage, along with the ruby red, glass and silver oil lamp my brother had meant for my wedding gift. The tribute to my 'alternative religion' is the stag candle holder which has two beeswax candles and my two straw goats. Stockings for each person who has been a guest or our family hang from the mantle.

Last night we had a feast of Christmas Falafel (there are many vegetarians in our family), a standing rib (because my husband likes his roast beast), an apple pie baked by our youngest, a wonderful rum cake baked by my mum, stuffed mushrooms, and the butternut squash seasoned by my daughter in law. Our eldest daughter had baked gingerbread cookies and decorated them like I used to do when the kids were little. Little Simone really liked her ginger boy.... Oh yes, listening to a little voice saying her words that were not so baby-ish was great fun... along with her delight in a wind up caterpillar and a stuffed monkey.

Red and white - the image of Santa we know was created in many ways by Coca Cola - but "Santa" /St Niklaus originated long ago with a bishop of Turkey, St. Niklaus was the patron saint of Russia. Then the Nordic peoples gave it their own turn, but gifts were never big gifts. Our culture has gotten greedy and insane about bigger is better. In Rome large gifts were usually meant as bribes. Red and white were the colors of Saturnalia in ancient Rome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturnalia Originally Saturnalia was celebrated on the 17th of December - then expanded to the 23rd. The gift giving has possibly been a legacy of mixing the Christo/Roman aspects.

Well I am just having the post holiday.... tired, glad to see children, tired of snow, slush and ice - feeling very much like a prisoner of Skadi or the ice Queen. Sometimes feeling alone in a sea of 'christmas'... Everyone expected me to plan the whole holiday - the brunch (which I forgot in the struggle to get the small gifts this year - snow... arghhh) , the cooking of the dinner - filling the stockings, cleaning the house. In the end everyone had to help some. The worst is limping around with the sciatica that travels into my left foot. Remembering to savor all aspects of the fabric of one's life. My life is changing and will change even more in the New Year. All for a positive.</div>

<div>Nature has made her will known, which leaves me moving from space to space within my home, cleaning even more diligently. My Gods! One can accumulate a lot of junk in 33 years in one abode! Shut in.... in the cavern before the light is reborn. At least at this moment the sun is shining over all the snow and frosty landscape. Our daughter Brittain made it safely from Brooklyn a couple of days ago.

I am trying to find a job - several times a day I look at Craigslist - Seattle. At least I have an interview on Monday the 22nd if the weather cooperates. Today, I sent off another application - hmmmm... well, they did not list WHERE in WA they were or what kind of business they are - Heh... well, if I am this 60 year old woman, who has joined a rock band, finally accomplished getting a solo art show, writing poetry and looking at getting a tattoo... oh and there are other things that are firsts in my life lately - perhaps there is hope for me?

I am seeking positives as the weather has put my life on ice. Knowing there is love in my life both given and received is the greatest gift of all. Yule, the time when the days will soon start to become longer to bring us to spring and the snowdrops.

Ho hummm.... back to work. The blessing will be when all the cleaning is done and it will be so organized!!!

Many blessings to all of you who read this post. I have been reading the thoughts of my other friends and understand how much the darkness of this time has brought physical, spiritual and mental challenges to all of us. May you all have the love and abundances of all good things in the coming months that move towards spring. My life will be changing quite a bit.</div>

    </a>
										<div>Time is flying by quickly at times - and yet slowly when there are tasks like sorting through the household and tossing junk, old junk mail.
Our children will all be home for Christmas. What a blessed time it will be. The garland is hung around the living room coved ceiling. Then there are the packages that need to be sent off to my in-laws. With a year and a half year old grand daughter coming to visit so many things need to be put 'up' or away....

The special stockings are hung on the mantle.... a tradition begun by my paternal grandmother.

In the meantime I continue to rehearse with my band, Pagasys - and last Tuesday hung my first solo art show in La Cantina of the Groove U which is the building where our band now rehearses. Poetry continues to flow with another poem which will be set to music:

The Twilight of Spring
In the twilight of spring
the mists rise from the meadows,
(She sings from the meadows- Background echo)
(She sings from the meadows)
Light filters through the web of branches.
Green haze of life grows above and below.
(She sings above and below)
(She sings above and below)
It is then we know
with the snowdrop
comes the Lady's hour.
Nodding gently in the snow
green and white; green and white.
She shows us the glow
of her light, of her light.
Green and white, see the light.
See the light of her flame.
See her in the light of the flame.

Hopefully, I will be able to start working on my clay sculpture again in the next week or so - and I have also been planning to work with encaustic painting (pigment with beeswax).....

So - not only is it a busy season of sharing, family and joy, it is also a season of creativity for me.

Many blessings to all of you.</div>

<div>Ah yes! Pagasys played another gig and Keeper of the Well was played to a receptive audience, which asked for an encore. It was a fundraiser event for the small Druidic Gorsedd of Caer Pugetia. Seems like the Seattle Parks Dept has decided to raise the rates for the event rentals in the park spaces to a horrific fee - something hard for a group with no real money! Hmmm... we raised a bit towards those fees.

Along the way there was this beautiful person with lovely green eyes who walked up and said 'Don't I know you?' I usually remember a face.... It was lovely to meet Owl from my Tribe Friends. It was just serendipity that being present for our gig was quite a lovely happening. Nice to meet you OWL! We will have to get together again soon.

Hmmm... Wednesday was full of sharing and positive energies. I was with my band which is wonderful - sharing creativity. I was called 'The Lady of the Bowls' - LOL (I am playing singing bowls and percussion as well as singing) - and I was gifted with a horn ring carved with a dragon head.

I felt truly blessed, loved and joyous.... oh yes.</div>

    </a>
										<div>Ta Da! Last night was a special night for one of our dear friends. Shannon had her birthday at the bookstore/coffeeshop, A Gathering Grove.
For the last several weeks I had been drafted into being part of Pagasys, a band. Interesting - I have never been part of bands before a couple of months ago when I started taking photographs. Pagasys had been rehearsing a new music creation dedicated to Bridghid. Last night was the debut of that piece. There were 3 of us on that stage who were recently added - but the fantastic keyboardist, Rob, returned to work with Pagasys. I have to say he does a far better job at keyboards than I do. The amazing aspect of this last evening wasn't just performing the standard pieces and the piece about Brighid, but I found myself spontaneously adding my voice and percussion (singing bowls, turtle rattle and small brass bells) to the jam session. Amazing. I did not know that was in me!

All was fun - but I am tired - good tired. Now this afternoon, I must go up to paint on the wall again. The animals are being added into the forest.</div>

<div>Poetry is strange - either you like it or you don't.... right now it is just a river of words, expressing bits and pieces of my life and process.

Seriously - lately I have had some challenges as items are misplaced and are not found anywhere. Important things like the usb cord for my camera! So I had to order another one. &amp;lt;wince> There are people waiting to see the photos I have locked inside that camera. hmmmm...

In Deeply

In deeply,
Spiraling thoughts of each moment,
are leading me into the labyrinth of soul,
boundaries glow,
some paths are dead-end.

Follow the sun, follow the moon,
spiraling, spiraling inward,
singing the song in tune,
humming to the beat of the drum.

In deeply;
I wandered into the darkness,
then into the light, merged
and dancing, dancing to the beat of my heart.

Once you start upon that path,
There is no going back, no action by half.
Crossing over to this other world,
across the threshold of life unfurled.

First, the key to unlock a door.
Open, open... closed no more.
A flame raised high to light the way,
Ropes that bound me fall away.

The knife that cuts away the past,
Love's sweet potion make it last,
Rose of pink dawn's glowing hue,
Given by the friend that's true.

In deeply;
I wandered into the darkness,
then into the light, merged
and dancing, dancing to the beat of my heart.

    </a>
										<div>The last few weeks have been busy with painting a wall for friends...a lovely forest with animals, and rehearsing with the band Pagasys. There is a wonderful new piece of work to honor the Goddess Brigid which we will perform next Saturday for a friend's birthday party. Somehow I got recruited - so I play the keyboard making bell sounds and singing in the chorus. Hmmmm... it is harder than it looks to sing and play at the same time. I am learning.

In the meantime, the muse has come to visit me more often and words flow onto the page from experiences. Yes, I am very often busy - and also happy - happy in the core, something that has never happened except when my children were born. A perception of life.... not all life is beautiful, any more than nature is totally of beauty or being benign. Nature is... perhaps I am seeing the truth of my own 'nature'.

In the last 9 months I have learned about defining what I want, and then having the courage to step forward and do whatever it takes to make things happen. Those events may not always turn out the way I perceive they should, but at least I am acting in courage and not by default. Living by default is deadly.

During this last year I have gained new friends - people who truly love me. In a way it is a new family. It is a time when I am learning to spin, writing poetry, creating and cleaning up my messes... on all levels.

Here is the new poem from today.

Blue

Breathless,
I look into your eyes;
ice blue, blue blue, reflection blue
of the sea, the sea within.
You let me in. Into the portals, iris-wide
where there is nothing one can hide.

Breathless,
I look into your eyes;
ice blue, blue blue, reflection blue
of the sea, the sea within.

Reaching to touch the mirror,
My hand meets yours. I reach to touch the mirror.
and I realize
You are me and I am you, within the eyes.

Breathless,
I look into your eyes.
Within is where the secret lies
nested in this honeycomb.

Your eyes are my eyes,
ice blue, blue blue, reflection blue
of the sea, the sea within.
This is where the magic begins.

We manifest this magic,
where my hand meets yours and we touch the mirror.

Breathless,
I look into your eyes;
ice blue, blue blue, reflection blue
of the sea, the sea within.
You let me in. Into the portals, iris-wide
where there is nothing one can hide.

    </a>
										<div>This is the first day of the future.... Our country has finally crossed a threshold to elect Obama. It is a monumental shift in our country, thankfully. We have elected someone who represents the cross section of our American people. There were many factors involved, but I truly believe that the fear and concerns about the economy were a last straw. But Obama also brought his charisma and intellect and the willingness to reach out and draw people together. Why did it take so long? Now will come the years of rebuilding, restructuring.... at least I hope all will see that a President does not work alone. It will take many minds, many hearts, many hands to build the country that could bring a new global vision.

Hope.... and an eye to history. We do now have a President who has studied history and the lessons written there. How do we go forward? With each of us being more aware, participating with the structure of our political structures. Never again should we give over our power to those who seek to take away our basic American rights.

BTW , the President of the USA does not work alone and should not assume he or she is a dictator. There are the Congress, the Senate, and all the structures all the way down to the smallest political entity which craft our laws and put them into place. How many of you read what is happening in the capital of your state? Be aware.....

Our country really needs to look at education for our children, for they are the hope of our future. We need to look at stabilizing our economy. However, what I have seen as glimpses of the future are a bit grim. There may be famine due to pestilences and drought, and great violence. I hope I am wrong.... For now, I will work in my own space to be a positive energy.

    </a>
										<div>It must be a new phase of my life, because it seems that when I bought a drop spindle last April that I will be not only learning to spin but to knit and weave as well. The group of people I am drawn to here are really into these 'arts'. Who knows. My life seems to be shifting and each piece I have learned over the last few years, especially how our ancestral mothers cultivated, harvested, cleaned, dyed, spun, wove and stitched their love and 'magic' into the household clothing has been very interesting to me. They sang their songs, and prayed their magic into each action. Love and protection.... love and protection.

Just like with our food nowadays, we urban humans have no connection to the earth or the animals - or even the process of harvest. We are not thankful in the same ways for survival - because we often take it for granted. Survival was not always assured in the ancient times.
Even now - who knows - with the traffic the way it is in so many places one could end up gone from this plane in a blinking of an eye.

Yah... I digress.... I am thankful for friendships, comraderie, learning new things, sharing positive energies. It is joyful and brings songs and laughter into my heart.

Yes - I am laughing again.... I am starting to sing again - AND I am definitely writing again!</div>

It was wonderful to meet up with Shawnna during her brief time here in Seattle. Was great fun, though too brief. Hey, come back sometime soon, Shawnna. We had breakfast then we wandered over to my house, where she met my husband Bob and wandered around my garden briefly. Then all too soon, I had to return her to the airport.

It was wonderful to talk about her wolves, my art work and about the flow of our lives.

										<div>INNER TEMPLE - SAMHUINN

"Unlock me," I said.
You have the key.

What does it take to soar
to the infinite interior of who I am?

Now is the time of the underworld;
The deepest part of my inner cave.
Persephone shone her light
within the hollows of Hades realms.

So then do I carry my flame high,
stepping over the threshold guarded by Cerebus.

Do not forget the coin,
tendered to the Ferryman.
Oh Chiron, what do you see?

Stepping over the threshold,
to the Underworld of my soul;
I step into the Underworld of your soul.

Is there life in the seeds of garnet red.
Pomegranate speak your spells.
Sweet and glowing in the honeycombed shell
surrounding it with leathery skin.

Break it.

Jewel by jewel
taste the bitter sweetness I offer.

Shall I return to Spring?
Perhaps.

I have brought my flame
to this Inner Temple.
Life is yet to come.

"Unlock me," I said.
You have the key.

What does it take to soar
to the infinite interior of who I am?

Courage and Choice.

We have the key.

    </a>
										<div>I give thanks for each day. Interesting how perceptions change when one takes time to look at the good stuff, looking honestly about what does not work, and changing habits - hopefully for the better. Yes, there are challenges. The last few months the energies in my life have felt overwhelming, along with the chaos of our US political and economic scene and the world energies. Along the way it has been important for me to 'block' the energies of the world into my little sphere of existence or it would have been even more difficult. It is the time of Samhuinn, Samhain, (So-ween). This is the celebration that many now call Halloween - but has deeper roots and meanings on many levels of the spirit world. For me, a time of honoring my ancestors within myself and also honoring the possibility for transformations within myself. Hmmm... pretty ego-centric. But if I cannot shift and change for the positive in my environment with consciousness - then the energies I bring around me will not be as beneficial to others.

Along the way during the last 9 months my life has evolved with being able to see many more dimensions. Not that it did not have dimension before - but this is a bit different. It is one thing to 'give' and yet another energy to learn to 'receive'. Much of my life has been outflow and support of others. Someone once called me a 'hover mother' - always concerned for the other person's well being. Then in my class, one of my classmates gifted me with a very special drum - called Mother Drum - a drum of transformation. She has a lovely sound. I accepted this drum - knowing the lore that went with it. I had no idea what it would bring. Oh, it does open one's eyes to what IS and allows one to see the banquet of what is possible with the gifts one has. It also allowed me to accept many other layers of friendship, joy, laughter into my life.

So with the shift in my ability to receive gifts of friendship and being cherished, other artistic aspects of my life have rather exploded with activity. Painting this wall mural for a friend's fledgling bookshop is an opportunity I had often hoped for. Photographing bands has been great fun. Especially because I had never really been involved with rock music. My training has been in classical and "Celtic" based folk.

Then there is a whole with connection with bees and the sweetness of life.

May joy, laughter, sharing and cherishing be for all of you.

Ahhh.... and I get to meet and have coffee with Shawnna on Friday! (dance) Will be great to talk to the Lady of Wolves.

<div>Tomorrow I will start painting a forest on a wall at A Gathering Grove in Everett. It is an opportunity for fun and promoting a wonderful spiritual bookstore. It is a great place on Oakes in the heart of Everett. I just want to say - it is a great gathering place to discuss all sorts of things spiritual, environmental, or community oriented. Come and watch me paint the wall, buy lattes and look at the books and items.</div>

<div>

Floating, I recline upon the sea,
resigned upon the sea;
floating, floating
on the heart beat.

My heart is soft with the waves
which wash, lapping, lapping
at my senses of the inner eye
breaking sun across
a kaleidoscope sky.

Shades of blue, dark and surreal,
are indigo, cobalt, cerulian sea.

How long can you
hold your breath under
water? Water: Shades of blue,
Dark and surreal; indigo cobalt,
Cerulian sea.

Breath. It might be a while
where the dolphins sing,
swimming round in rings.

Floating, I recline upon the sea,
resigned upon the sea;
floating, floating
on a heart beat.

My heart is soft with the waves
which wash, lapping, lapping
at my senses of the inner eye
breaking sun across
a kaleidoscope sky.

And so life goes.... I do not qualify for unemployment with the way our Washington State unemployment is organized. So... I will just keep trying to find a job. Today my work was with my friends who wire-wrap jewelery. Then when I was in a coffee shop a woman just thought my pieces were so beautiful. I like odd stones - plastic and more natural. Sometimes it is a fossil from ancient tmes which shares its ancient energy.

So.... all this and a few other things remind me of floating in water, with waves lapping.... the strange water silence which surrounds like the womb. The heart beat of someone who cares with fultters like butterflies.

Have been cleaning out my studio and there are so many resources for creating in the world of chaos. So there it is...

    </a>
										<div> So, I have been reading about Athena and Greek/Roman Mythology.... All of a sudden this poem came. Strangely it has nothing to do with Greek/Roman but more Arthurian..... I think my brain is mis-wired. But.... a friend of mine wants to put it to music :

To Heal A Wounded King.

Etherial, My Heart.
Come, within the transformation be,
with the blessings of your smile
so like the moon's glow from sun's day.
Spirit dancing complete the circle, time
from time began. From early morn
until Auf's realm, beguile.
Here the star-beam comes to bring
healing to the wounded King.
Priest and man, his voice
in invocations to our Goddess sing.
With shield and sword he holds truth
now and time to be, a while.
How strongly does the heart
beat? The drums are throbbing
in meritorious sum;
Harmony in a not so distant hum.
Come, within, the transformation be,
with the blessings of Her smile
so like the moon's glow from sun's day.
