5.When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them 5 questions.

any takers?

1) How did you feel the first time that you worked with metal? Did it always call to you?

The first time I worked with metal was hammering out a small dipping cup from copper plumbing pipe. I had no idea of how to do it properly so it was a mix of mystery, mistakes and revelations. My dad was a 35-year foundry man and you’d think growing up with that, I’d of had an interest. Not so. I took it up for practical reasons then it grew to be a passion. I’ve never been a natural at anything. It’s always “time on the tools” for me to get good at something.
Today, I live for working with my hands. Figuring out how to do something new is a pure pleasure.

2) Do you ever have little moments that are so perfect you can hardly stand it? If so, describe one of these moments.

Doing what I do professionally I have lots of wonder moments when everything just comes together but I’d have to say that the most perfect moments were times with my Siberian Husky Kesska. I’d lie down next to him and bury my face in the fur of his neck and put my arm over his shoulders. I’d smell his fur and feel him breath. He’d begin to make this very contented groan. It was his way of saying he was happy. It was pure joy doing that. My last chance to do that was the night he passed away. After he died I lay next to his body and slept with him through the night. It was in my dreams that I heard his contented groan.

3) If you were an animal, what would you be and why? Plant? Plus one other category of your choice?

I’m VERY canine but if I had to choose I’d say a raptor of some sort. Probably a bald eagle. Although they’re just crows with a nice hat, salmon makes up a large part of their diet and I just live for salmon! The freedom of flight is what attracts me most. As far as a plant goes I’d want to be a tree on the timberline of Mt St Helens. I grew up on that mountain and have a very deep connection to it.

The other category? I’d want to be a comet or a traveling celestial body of some sort. Kind of the ultimate traveler/observer but on a galactic scale.

4) Do you believe in angels?

I don’t. I have no spirituality other than existence. For me, anthropomorphizing elements of the universe robs them of their nature. I’ve never had the deeper questions – “Why are we here?” “What purpose our life?” “Is there a god?” etc.
I’ve never felt that anything or anyone was watching out for me. Don’t mistake my point of view for atheism or being agnostic. I simply don’t care if there is a god or gods. I’m so very contented with having life and being in wonder at the universe I perceive.

5) If you looked at the stars and they told you that you could have just one wish what would you wish for?

I truly do have a wonderful life. The few things I would like to add or expand on are very easily within my reach. I don’t know that I’d have a wish for myself but if I could have anything granted, it would be that we all wake up tomorrow without any need to describe or defend territory.
