My mother was my best friend growing up and I was hers. I think at times this got us into trouble because it was hard for her to be my mom as well.
Her personality is something that I was scared of and embarrassed by growing up, but now I see that what my father always told me about her was true... that a person with a personality so joyous and robust like my mother's is a person to keep close to you, as she makes life worth living.
Now as an adult I often love to hear my mothers ideas and jokes and best, her laughter. It's the kind of vulnerable laughter that warms and graces an entire room with enthusiasm.
I have the best mom, and I realize this now more every day! She will always be my best friend.
