Last night,
goat and I went to Clio and had the 14-course chef's tasting menu.
I'd gotten a bonus from work, so we decided to put it towards an anniversary dinner. The last two years we went to Tangierino, but as we've just come back from Morocco, decided to try something different.
Oh. my. god.
ceciliatan captured much of the overall experience in her post a few weeks ago, but the menus were slightly different. We had the "amuse", tomato water martini (who knew that you could filter a tomato to the point of clarity? not I!), sashimi, truffle course, lobster, foie gras, cheese, and liquid pumpkin pie as she described better than I probably could as we didn't take notes. Our main course was the tenderest venison that I've ever had.
It was an adventure expressed through food. We traveled to faraway places as we ate. It was some of the most diverse and innovative food that either of us has ever had. My comment at one point was that I'd never had so little food taste so good. Not that we were left hungry, mind you, but the tasting portions were just that, very modest, but each bite was an exploration of flavor and texture. It was very much like eating really good sushi, which is generally in its own class, but that dreamy, floaty, yumminess was the same.
Finally, the ride was over, nearly three and a half hours later. As it turns out, the bonus from work will cover only 36% of the bill, but it was so worth it.
We then left, and finished our last course of each other at home ;)
