Although I don't know Bill that well, I can definitely say that he embodies a quality that is extremely rare and valuable: He has a care for others that is transcendent of almost every casual and colloquial use of the term. It is intentional and deliberate. Many people seem to view relationships like communicable diseases, and their friends and those about whom they care are determined merely by their circumstances, such as where they grew up, who lives down the street, etc. Bill, however, has never even met me in person, and yet he sought me out because of what Kara had said about me, and since coming into contact with him, he has exhibited to me a care more genuine than many people I have known for years.
He is not only deliberate and intentional in his care for human beings, but also in his care for what makes us human: the fruits of our humanity, the humanities in all of their forms. He is a true lover of art, an authentic individual, and I am proud to know him and be known by him.
