Not exactly sure what you are getting at Charles. If you mean that the idea of letting go is a mental construction, then I agree, but I find some constructions and that one in particular, useful.

As I consider this more, I think that it might not be possible to know for certain whether or not you are being 100% honest with yourself or anyone else, because if you are deceiving yourself, you don't know that you are, by definition.
