about me
I'm an environmental art and education worker. As "Creeping Toad", I work with groups to find ways of celebrating the relationships between people and the places where they live, work and play. The by-line in this work is that 'we live in a world worthy of celebration" The work i do mixes ecology, cretaivity and encourages a sense of personal connection between particiapnts and the world around them. On a more personal level, I am activiely animist/shamanic in my personal practice

My Recent Activity

Re: December who's afoot? (in Bio-regional Animism) Like you, Pauline, I'd talk about rain, and like you I'd find myself being reminded that is just Rain, doing its rainy thing. Regardless of how we feel about it, Rain must be rain. But working today in Sherwood, surrounded by great ancient oak tre... read more

Re: NOVEMBER WHOS AFOOT (in Bio-regional Animism) a month ago, I was working up in the Highlands of Scotland and we saw the first snow on the mountains there. Here, 350 miles south of that in the Peak District of England, winter arrived this morning with dramatic rain, flooding roads and wind blo... read more

My Blog

August 2008
Now working on a 2 week residency at the Holly Lodge Centre in Richmond Park, Surrey working with mostly special needs groups on environmental art workshops. We are doing a lot of book building, taking a visit to the Park and building pages that capture the feel of trees, flowers, animals, people, weather….good sessions with straightforward techniques that allow for lots of individual variety within a basic structure. So we have had long, fold-out weather pages, printing with l... read more

“Where is She now?”
July 2008: a series of puppet workshops looking for Arnemecta (or Arnemetia) the Romano-Celtic Goddess of the waters of Buxton. Beginning in Poole’s Cavern with water seeping, trickling, dripping and running over stone, wearing away, depositing, changing stone, we wandered through ideas until we arrived at a modern Arnemetia. Here, we found Her posing as a Bag-Lady, pottering around the town, challenging people’ assumptions and quietly keeping an eye on Her springs and we... read more

Just recently returned (February 21st) from 3 weeks in Chicago, working with local artists and students to create a series of lantern processions and puppet shows. Stunning to be among the ice and snow and freezing winds blowing the gloom away!

More about the project: vain autumn challenges cold winter for more time to show off his spectacular colours and delicious fruits. In the struggle that follows, the Moon, trying to separate the two seasons, is torn apart and falls in 6 pieces to th... read more
