Einstein

DANCE! - Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible player.

LOVE - Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love.

First real Public Performance

I can't believe it, but yes I did an actual "real public" performance. And yes it was against my better judgement, but it was fun. Sorry the picture is so blurry.... but at least we got one!

What I found more enjoyable than the actual performance was the "troupe" group feel. The getting ready for the performance, watching the others perform and then just hanging out after.

I really found pleasure in the time, effort and creativity it took to make my costume, knowing that I had to have it done in time for the performance. There is nothing quite like a deadline!

But like I said even though the public performing aspect doesn't really interest me, I find great joy in the gypsy sisterhood, and creativity that comes along with the performance.

The day of "Resurrection"

It is Easter day, the day of "Resurrection",
which also means REVIVAL: an act of reviving; the state of being revived.
REVIVED: to bring back to life consciousness; make or become fresh or strong again.

I've been out in nature quite a bit this week and have enjoyed watching all the animals at play.

When I went on a hike I saw lots of cotton tails, which my dog so wanted to chase. On my drive home from work one evening I saw two cotton tails playing and chasing each other in circles.

Today while having the family "get together" at my parents house I observed the hummingbird you see in the picture. She had built a nest in my parents tree. Her nest over looks their pond and I enjoyed watching her fly from the nest to the flowering Aloe Vera flowers near the pond and back again.

Spring is definitely the time of Revival, when life is Revived, and nature is such a delightful way to infuse yourself with that energy. From the birds, cotton tails, butterflies, dragonflies, bees.... take the time to watch and enjoy... and infuse yourself with Springs energy.

Flamenco... OLE'

I went to watch Flamenco the other night.... WOW!

What an exhilerating, passionate form of dance!

Gypsy fever!

I see similarities to Tribal Bellydance, it was interersting to watch the dancers interact with the guitar players like you watch bellydancers with their drummers. Where bellydancers make music in visual form, Flamenco dancers adds their own sound to the music with their stomping.

There is also the castanets vs zils.

Such a large sisterhood of gypsy dancers with their male counterpart dancers or musicians.

My Gypsy family is ever expanding, and I am loving it!

First Performance

What a fun night!

I do bellydance for me, not to perform.

So even though I have been practicing and enjoying bellydance for quite a few years I had not yet "performed" in front of a group of people. I have never had any problem dancing in front of a group, but "perform" where they are actually there to Watch You, ... Ah... that's a whole other thing!

So, yes Friday night March 24th, 2006 was my first improptu performance.

My Tribal Bellydance teachers (Anahid and Raianah) MADE me perform with them. It was another student Shala (one of my best friends), me, Anahid and Raianah.

What a fun time! In true Tribal fashion we danced total impromptu. Of course I did screw up a bit, but in the spur of the moment it didn't bother me and I was happy that I was just "doing" it.

The other fun thing was the "getting ready".

Our bellydance class is Thursday night, and it was there that I was informed that I "WOULD be dancing with them tomorrow night". Well being Tribal we needed to have a Troupe "look", and not being in "performance mode" I don't have my Costume act together. My girlfriend Shala came over and helped me "pull it together" so we had similar "looks". I have to say that I still didn't feel that I had the complete "Tribal" look like the other three, but I felt for such last minute "throw together" I looked pretty good.

I still haven't caught the "performance bug" but I did enjoy the experience, and will probably do small performance pieces in a troupe atmosphere again.

Thank you all for pushing me out of my comfort box, and helping me pull the look together!

Yip Yip!

Happy Spring Equinox!

This is my very first blog... but I guess that is appropriate since it is the Spring Equinox today.

A time to energize aspects of ourselves that we wish to bring forth.

This weekends "Empower the Goddess - Sacred Bellydance Retreat" really infused me with passion to make conscious changes in my life. It has set in motion an energy that I hope will vibrate throughout the year and continue to grow through the seasons.
