Solo Improvisational Class
(events » arts)
Wednesday, March 5, 2008 - 5:00 PM
Fridays, 5pm to 6:15 Virgo Studio. Call 550-7610 for directions and additional info
This is a fast paced workout in a collaborative yet creativelychallenging environment. We'll work on taking our dance to the next level, combining elements of authentic Middle Eastern Dance and Tribal Fusion. We work on both technique/skills, and "Improvisational Choreography" -- it's not a contradiction. Lots of zills and music theory to conplement our knowlege of the dance!
about me
I'm a long time belly dancer who can't seem to quit. I'm not sure weather my love of dance inspires me to make costumes and practice wear, or the other way around! I'm especially inspired by tribal fusion bellydance right now, although my roots (18 years of them!) originate in classical egyptian and folk styles. In my day job (which i also love), I'm a psychiatric RN working with the homeless population, and somewhere in all of that, I spend time with my amazing husband and son. Life is good!

Got back from a booty busting weekend in las Vegas with Zoe Jakes! She kicked my butt, let me tell you, but I came away with so many gems. Lots of conceptual stuff, like being pulled or thrown by the movement, effective combination of "wierd" and "not weird" bellydance, literally moving around you own body parts, etc. She's full of combinations which are a lot like stuff I've done, but when she brings it up to tempo, it's about 4 times faster, so a lot harder to control.
And she's al...

We'd drill basic cane movements, and learn a 2-3 minute cane choreography that you could take away and use as part of a dance set. Any interested dancers out there?

The show was awesome, and what really struck me was how much camraderie I felt. The back stage scene was warm and inviting and everyone seemed to be enjoying each other's presence. I especially felt happ...
