I'm going through changes!!!
(blog entry)
November has been a big month of change for me. After one year making my living from dance, and dancing 5 nights a week, a few things happened that caused me to re-evaluate my plan of action. Although I made a steady living dancing, saving was...

Raqs Sharqi v. Goddess Archetypes
(blog entry)
To me, Egyptian dance (raqs sharqi) in the present day has NOTHING to do with archetypes, goddess worship, etc. Although I see that for some of my friends, channelling archetypes in the dance has been very powerful for them, I dont relate at all....

about me
I have been dancing for five years, studying primarily under Tarik Sultan and Morocco. I love the styles of Fifi Abdou, Dandash, and Samia Gamal. I currently make my living dancing, working for a chocolate company, and and slowly working towards owning my own wedding cake business.
November has been a big month of change for me. After one year making my living from dance, and dancing 5 nights a week, a few things happened that caused me to re-evaluate my plan of action. Although I made a steady living dancing, saving was difficult, and insurance was out of the question. Not being married anymore, and nowhere near my family in NYC puts me in a somewhat stereotypical new york spot - but I am so proud of myself for living solely off of dance.

Matt is the Marketing Coordinator (and also an audio editer) for a company called Radio Tag. You know all those Musician and Star promos you hear on the air? Well, Radio Tag does ALL of them.
Anyway, they are having a "meeting" at the Kiss concert here. And there is an extra ticket. So I get to go and sit in on this nice little meeting with Gene Simmons. I am too curious...

I have seen some beautiful "goddess" performances, but mostly, I have seen performances that use the goddess imagery as a smokescreen for over the top sexuality, and on occaission, fusion that isnt labled as such (which can leave an audience confus...

Its the same video, and its hardly my favorite clip, BUT, it was easy to edit, is a nice length, and just so happens to be documentary footage of a sort - this is me testing out the choreo I taught in a Nashville workshop this past spring.
Its a little hard...

First, the one I really want - marketing position with a major international chocolatier. Second, a position as Personal Assistant and occasional cook for a small boutique caterer that works with TV and movie sets. Either would make me happy, and both are mon-wed gigs.
So what does that mean?
I gotta put my money where my mouth is, and start shaking my booty - in other words, really really (instead of sorta doing it) begin my dance career here i...
