about me
We are a group of theatre artists who are also authorized teachers in yoga, zen meditation, tai chi, and aikido. We are seeking to unify these disciplines to make a unified theatre practice that promotes individual and world healing, hones professional skill, and energizes the theatrical experience.
We are dedicated to a new process of making theatre, and to forming a lively community of artists who bring the expressive arts into all areas of their life.
We believe acting, storytelling, poetry, and stagecraft are noble professions.
We believe artists are voyagers, reporting from the darkest territories of human experience.
We see these arts as a path of liberation for the artist.
We help actors hone their skills, and fall in love with acting all over again.
For actors and non-actors alike, we introduce the way of acting as a force that bursts through defensive notions of self, to enrich our perspective and sense of purpose.

Day Two: Sing it!
(blog entry)

Our classes are like that: things appear in the room ...

THURSDAY: We practiced a guided Taoist meditation and segued into vocal work, bringing resonance into different parts of the body with different effects on body/mind.
Then we did improvisational movement, exploring the point where the editing consciousness relaxes and "something else" moves us around.
SUNDAY: After yoga, more meditation. After sitting Zen, we experimented with an adaptation of tonglen. In Alg's...

Our classes are like that: things appear in the room and we explore them. We aren't teaching from outlines or lesson plans - oh, we've tried, but we can't stick to them. Much more interesting to follow what happens when we are in the room together.
After all, that's what excites us about theatre: ...

Our cycle of spring classes, integrating yoga, meditation, and martial arts work into our training as actors, began today with a 4-hour class at Om the Road yoga studio in North Hollywood.
Here's what we did:
Yoga. Unifying breath and movement in a workout that was physically demanding.
Zazen. Skipping the imaginary gap between listening and communicating. A restful yet energizing awareness practice while sitting, walking, and movement.
Aikido. A method for exploring violence...
